Crescendo Detroit, in partnership with United Way, is excited to offer our FREE Summer Discovery Program—where scholars experience the perfect blend of academic support and creative exploration.

Students will strengthen their skills with certified ELA and Math teachers, ensuring meaningful growth in reading, writing, and math—while also engaging in music, arts, and hands-on activities that build confidence, creativity, and connection.

From learning to laughter, every day is designed to help scholars thrive academically and shine creatively.

10 years ago today, the world lost someone whose impact went far beyond the music.

As the world honors Prince and the legacy he left behind, we felt it was only fitting to make this announcement today.

Prince generously, often anonymously, invested in the next generation, creating opportunities for young people to thrive. It’s a mission we share at Crescendo Detroit.

We’re excited to partner with Morris Hayes, Prince’s Music Director and longest-serving band member, who will be working with our students this summer and bringing something special to Detroit.

FACULTY SPOTLIGHT: Introducing Guadalupe Aroche-Lezama! Guadalupe has played violin for 16 years, having a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Instrumental Studies and is certified through the State of Michigan. Guadalupe has been with Crescendo Detroit since February 2024 as our string orchestra teacher. He also teaches young five to 4th grade general music in the Monroe Public Schools. Guadalupe has great experience in teaching students of any age to pick up a new musical skill. This passion has him working to restart the youth orchestra in Monroe County, and having taught at other nonprofits.

Meet our Site Director and loyal member of the Crescendo Family!

Angel Ingram is a K–5 General Music educator in the University Prep Schools District in Detroit and Site Director of Crescendo Detroit, a nonprofit providing music and movement programming for youth across Detroit and Metro Detroit. She holds degrees from Albion College and Grand Valley State University and is currently pursuing a second master’s in Music History at Wayne State University. A proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, she is a lifelong learner who continues to perform locally as a flutist and serves on the Albion College Alumni Board of Directors.
