Motown Boxing Metro Detroit

Motown Boxing Metro Detroit Motown Boxing Metro Detroit is non-profit 501-C3 boxing program that offers boxing training and competition as a vessel to mentor young males and females.

Why Us

Since 2007, Motown Boxing Metro Detroit has been reaching out and servicing kids and young adults in the metropolitan Detroit community by providing education, mentorship and instruction within the “sweet science” of boxing, a sport boxing dating back for centuries. At Motown Boxing Metro Detroit, we associate the science of the sport of boxing with the success and struggles of everyday li

fe. We emphasize rules (boxing is governed by a sanctioning body which regulates the sport), organization, (participants adhere to a rigorous schedule), preparation, and productivity (participants must learn to prepare to be successful and produce positive results). The experiences gained from training at Motown Boxing Metro Detroit far exceed that of a regular boxing club. We prepare boxers for competition at all levels from local Golden Gloves to national competition of which we have won championships. Our most important goal, however, is preparation for life. In The Community

Motown Boxing Metro Detroit has been a regular recreational safe haven for kids in the metropolitan community, serving Detroit, Warren, Eastpointe, and Roseville. We emphasize self respect and fair play. We have partnered with Denby Technical High School, Vista Maria, Alkeebulan Village, Timbukto Academy, Nsoroma Academy, and Lord of The Harvest Christian Fellowship Church to provide recreational service and mentorship. Message From The Founder
As head coach and founder, I have been coaching boxing since 1982. As a former boxer and kick boxer, my experience has allowed me to travel to many places in America and abroad. I believe that individuals can be productive with direction, education and opportunity. This mindset called me to volunteer for many positive causes including Big Brother Big Sisters (mentor), St. Bernard Church Explorers (mentor), Eagle Sports Baseball (coach), Upward Bound Basketball (coach), St. Matthew Girls Basketball (coach), Detroit Police Fifth Precinct Basketball (coach), Police Athletic League (PAL coach, mentor), Alkeebulan Village Board of Directors (mentor, coach), Knubian Knights Boxing (coach, mentor), and Motown Boxing Metro Detroit as a coach and mentor. I’m a retired Detroit Police sergeant who has spent my life improving communities. I’ve arrested individuals and later placed them in my program in an effort to afford them some direction and opportunity. I have always been “a part of the solution”. The sport of boxing has been an effective tool in reaching our kids in the community and placing me in a position to make a difference in some of their lives. I have always believed that the lives of our youth could be shaped positively by dedicated mentors, coaches and the everyday person.
