The Indian Village was established in 1895 as an upscale neighborhood in Detroit's growing east side. The stately houses had lovely gardens, many designed by landscape architects and cared for by full time gardeners. As time passed, most homeowners began doing their own gardening. In 1953, a key group of women decided to form a garden club; members could learn garden skills from professional prese
ntations at meetings and from each other. Soon social activities and projects to beautify the neighborhood began to appear on the club calendar. The club continues as an important part of Indian Village, now listed in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The club hosts evening meetings to accommodate our many working members and enthusiastically welcomes new members. Meeting are held the second of the month, September to May. Special events include a December Holiday Dinner Dance and a May Outing and Dinner and the Indian Village Home & Garden Tour.
