Detroit Phoenix Center DPC provides youth resources such as rapid rehousing, drop-in center, life skills training, crisis support, and scholarships.

Partnering with young people, DPC drives systemic change to end youth homelessness and create lasting opportunities for success. The Detroit Phoenix Center exists to empower youth who are at-risk or currently experiencing homelessness the resources needed to improve health, wellness, and self-sufficiency.

We pulled a few of our Summer Leadership Academy participants for a chat 🥹

They were asked what their favorite part of experiencing SLA is so far. A common takeaway from them all was the connections and friends they’ve made along. Now that’s a genuine, unscripted experience.

Bonds were formed, connections were built, and leadership skills were developed. It was amazing to see their hard work pay off at the most recent YouthUp Friday as they brought that service project to life.

Looking forward to seeing these young leaders will strengthen their leadership skills, explore career pathways and meet community leaders over the coming weeks.

We’re so happy, and very proud, of our youth. Keep putting the work in! 💪🏾

Building the next YouthUp Mobile takes planning 💡

Our Summer Leadership Academy participants put their business and leadership skills to work during a collaborative planning session for the forthcoming YouthUp Mobile #2: Stabilization Unit. 🚐🧡

Together, they explored design principles, safety considerations and resources that could help create a mobile safe space where young people experiencing crisis can pause, recover and move forward. The group shared ideas, asked questions, weighed different perspectives and worked together to help shape what comes next.

Sessions like this give our young leaders a hands-on role in developing a real DPC initiative while building skills in strategic planning, problem-solving and collaborative decision-making.

And of course, no planning session is complete without some pizza, a few laughs and quality time!

Now, we’re raising $15,000 through the Rocket Community Challenge to help bring the YouthUp Mobile: Stabilization Unit to life. Every eligible gift is matched by BrassCraft, up to the available match amount.

THIS is what a Youth Takeover looks like. ☀️🧡

Our most recent YouthUp Friday brought another great night to Cadillac Square, and y’all definitely came ready to have a good time!

We danced with the Lemon Pepper Steppers, grabbed pizza and Ben & Jerry's, hit the open mic, got creative with sidewalk chalk (we love a creative safe space), and spent the evening connecting with youth, families and community.

Our YouthUp leaders, Summer Leadership Academy members and DPC team were right in the thick of it all, helping bring the night together and making sure everyone had a space to hang out, have fun and enjoy downtown.

Thank you to everyone who came through, brought the energy and made another YouthUp Friday one to remember. Detroit showed us love all summer, and we loved spending it with you. 🫶🏾

Our youth braved the heatwave for some rec time! ☀️

We had such an amazing time welcoming two youth groups to our recent Youth Up Camp Connect! Those who attended were able to play basketball and soccer as well as Simon Says and other games inside the YouthUP Mobile Unit, There was something for every age to enjoy, especially the snacks, video games and AC 😅

Our older youth group youths took on a fun team building and bonding activity by building marshmallow towers. A little friendly competition is always good, especially one that that encourages communication, creativity, and working together. Don’t worry, everyone is a winner in our book. 🏀⚽

One of our favorite moments was simply sitting down and talking with each young person about their dreams. Some shared their shared goals of becoming professional athletes, entrepreneurs, teachers and more. Every conversation was met with undivided attention, encouragement and support from their peers. It was a reminder that their future is full of possibility.

Thank you to everyone who spent the day with us. We can’t wait to see you again at Youth Up Fridays this Friday, July 24, in Downtown Detroit! 🧡

We asked our Summer Leadership Academy apprentices one simple question: What expectations do you have for yourself this summer?

They talked about building confidence, developing new skills, creating opportunities, and becoming stronger leaders.

That’s what makes this experience so meaningful. We can’t wait to watch those goals come to life over the next six weeks.
