Detroit Autism Support - Au-Some City 313

Greeting Detroiters!
During Minority Mental Health Awareness Month in July, let’s shine a light on the importance of addressing mental health disparities in minority communities. We must work towards improving accessibility to mental health resources and support for all individuals.

The Protect Your Crown campaign seeks to hear from all Detroiters, ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard and included in the conversation.

By raising awareness and advocating for equitable access to care, we can help create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone’s mental well-being. Let’s continue to strive for better mental health accessibility and support for all.

Please, take the Community Attitudes Survey at detroitmi.gov/protectyourcrown and be sure to share it with your family and friends.

The Vision

As a Board Certified Behavior Analyst working with youth with autism, founder and director Alexis Brooks, M.A.Ed., BCBA, continually seeks out a variety of community settings in which to train youth with autism to normalize their behaviors so they can have equal opportunities in society with their peers. Having 10 years of teaching experience in Detroit, 8 with Detroit Public Schools, Alexis has insight into the developmental skills that are being taught in the educational setting. As a parent, Alexis wants to provide parents of youth with autism access to the same type of programs and activities, in a safe sensory-friendly space, that her own children have access to. In the city of Detroit, there is no setting exclusively designated for our autistic community to give them the equal opportunities they need to succeed; Au-Some City will fill this void.

Au-Some City: All Inclusive Learning Center will provide learning and recreational activities for the special needs community including the music, dance, fitness, sports, school and career readiness and much more for the overall development of the our residents.
