NABJ mourns the passing of legendary journalist Steve Holsey—known as the "Dean of Documenting Detroit", who passed away at the age of 77.

For over five decades at The Michigan Chronicle, Steve served as a titan of arts and entertainment journalism. Through his iconic weekly column, Reflections, he chronicled the golden era of Motown, championed Black culture, and inspired generations of storytellers with his warmth, wit, and unwavering dedication.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Michigan Chronicle newsroom. Rest in power, Steve.

S/O to Duante Beddingfield for his profile of Montez Miller, one of his last pieces written for the Detroit Free Press.

Aretha Franklin helped unlock Montez Miller’s gift for photography. Now Miller documents the people and moments that define Detroit.
