In media commentary on cord‑cutting in Michigan, IOGs Dr. Carrie Leach emphasized that rapid declines in cable subscriptions risk deepening the digital divide. Many still lack reliable broadband, up‑to‑date devices, or comfort with streaming platforms, which means TVs remain a critical lifeline to information especially among older and low-income residents.

Cable television subscribers fell below 1 million in Michigan in 2025, as concerns about the cost of streaming services are increasing.
