NSO was proud to stand alongside Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield and city leaders for the announcement of Homeless to Housed — a historic $9.2 million, three-year initiative to move families out of emergency shelter and into permanent, stable homes.

Representing NSO at the event, Chief Administrative Officer Paris White shared that NSO is already working with 78 families through the program, with the first move-ins expected as early as next week. Combining rapid rehousing and tenant-based rental assistance, the initiative will help an estimated 140 families — about 500 Detroiters — transition from shelter into housing each year.

As Paris shared: "These families receiving the keys to homes is much more than a move-in — it's the beginning of a new chapter filled with dignity, stability, and opportunity."

For more than 70 years, NSO has partnered with the City of Detroit to build pathways out of homelessness, and this initiative is a powerful next step. Thank you to Mayor Sheffield, the new Office of Homeless, Human and Family Services, and all of our city and nonprofit partners for investing in Detroit families. 🏡
