Detroit Ice Dreams is proud to announce Jalen Smereck as our new Director of Player Development!

As Jalen closes an outstanding professional playing career as one of the top defensemen in ECHL history, he begins a new chapter—helping develop the next generation of Detroit hockey players.

Jalen’s impact has always gone far beyond the ice. Throughout his career, he has made giving back to the community a priority, including through his nonprofit, Not Me U, using hockey and mentorship to make a difference in the lives of young people.

Now, he’s bringing that same passion, experience, and commitment home to Detroit Ice Dreams.

Our players will have the opportunity to learn from someone who knows what it takes to compete at the professional level while understanding the importance of character, confidence, discipline, and giving back.

Detroit Ice Dreams is looking for volunteer coaches and mentors for the upcoming season!

You don’t have to be available every day. Even if you can give us just a couple of days a month, your time can make a difference in a young person’s life.

Our mission is bigger than hockey. We’re using the game to build confidence, discipline, teamwork, relationships, and opportunities for Detroit youth.

If you love hockey, enjoy working with young people, or simply want to give back to the community, we’d love to have you be part of Detroit Ice Dreams.
