Healthy Detroit is a non-profit corporation organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes as defined in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or any corresponding section of any future federal tax code. The overall purpose of the Corporation is to improve the health and quality of life for individuals, families, and communities in Detroit by focusing on prevention and wel
lness using, but not limited to, strategies presented by the National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council in the National Prevention Strategy including:
(1) Youth educational programs that encourage healthier environments in schools and promote and inspire healthier behavior amongst Detroit’s youth
(2) Community outreach programs that improve residents’ access to healthy food choices, empower residents to make healthier life choices by providing awareness and education, eliminate existing health disparities, increase community preventative services, and promote healthy and safe community environments
(3) Business partnership programs that encourage residents to choose businesses in the city that offer healthy products or promote wellness, encourage existing businesses to offer more healthy alternatives, and inspire new businesses and organizations to form in the city that promote healthy living
(4) Prevention and Awareness Campaign that increases awareness of health issues affecting Detroit, promotes healthier lifestyles amongst residents, and shifts the culture of the city to one focused on prevention and wellness through merchandise, advertisements, social media, and other propaganda.
