We honored each student learner, as we have in the past, as Kindness Warriors. This year, we emphasized each child's individuality and how those traits + qualities show up in their community. We're excited to witness the next iteration of their little (but adventurous) lives!

Detroit Parent Collective + Free Thinker School could not be what it is without those who trust in us, our Educators, Families and Community, to further impact the lives of our youngest ones.

A peaceful refuge right in the heart of Detroit. The children were excited but oh so quiet as we walked like coyotes through the forest encountering amazing surprises. From the tiny mushroom to the giant slug to the red crumbling wood, a teeny bone, beautiful flowers, a smooth stone, and so many more treasures. Our family field trip to Palmer Park yesterday was truly magical...

As Summer begins to wind down we look forward to welcoming University of Michigan Student Interns to join our Director this Fall to design and carry a Nature-Based + Multi-Cultural Program for young student learners.

We presently have space for young learners between the ages of 2.5 - 4.

Yearly Tuition of $8100.00 (or $900.00/mo, Sept - May)
*Program Begins Sept 13th (and runs til May 30th 2024)

Detroit Parent Collective + Free Thinker School is a uniquely blended model that allows for parents/ guardians to be involved in the day-to-day learning and interaction through our CoWorking Model.

A glimpse of what you'll witness is social interactions between Educator(s) and Student Learners through a nature-based learning setting where Community Values drive for inclusivity within this shared space.

We are currently looking to engage families with young learners between the ages of 2.5 - 4 !

A key child-inspired focus this week was INSECTS! Whatever we're doing and wherever we are, our little learners are always finding them. Insect Stars this week were a Summer Chafer, an injured Steel Blue Cricket Hunter, a Green Shield aka Stink Bug, Lady Beetles, and miscellaneous unidentified caterpillars. We took the opportunity to talk about how to identify insects, the parts of their bodies, and why they are important in the ecosystem. Our budding scientists were enthralled.

Co-working, co-playing, reading a story to the children, leading a little activity, being part of outside adventures... saying goodbye at the front window, or staying a little while or all day. Moms, Dads, Aunties, Uncles, Grandparents... whoever is part of your family is part of ours. We embrace it all at Detroit Parent Collective/ Free Thinker School!

Child-led learning & play means hearing or observing children's interests and providing opportunities for them to pursue them. It looks like...
"Can we learn about sea creatures?" "Can we play in the backyard when we get here every morning?" "Let's read this story all together!" "Could we have banana-blueberry smoothies for snack?"

Nature-Based Art, Outdoors. Does it get any more magical than this? The children collected their materials and spent time crafting their collages, each one with its own special story.

At Detroit Parent Collective/ Free Thinker School, whether it's tending the garden, spontaneous adventures outdoors, or just tidying up the classroom... collaborative play, and welcoming all friends to be part of it, seems to come naturally with our little learners. So heartwarming...
