Detroit Creativity Project

Detroit Creativity Project We use improv to empower Detroit area youth, building confidence and teaching a creative, collaborative approach to life. The best part?

Founded in 2011, we've been a 501(c)(3) nonprofit since 2013. Classes & workshops across SE Michigan, and statewide educator training We are a nonprofit organization working to make sure every child has the chance to succeed. Through our flagship program, The Improv Project, we’re working to give Detroit's young people tools they can use to make meaningful changes in their lives. These young impro

visers gain confidence and learn lessons that would make all of us better people. They develop the ability to collaborate, listen, respect others’ views, and build literacy skills. And they learn what is possible when they take risks, practice, and persevere. Along the way many discover who they are, and who they want to become. These lessons endure after improv class ends. When you donate to The Detroit Creativity Project, 100% of your money goes to support kids in The Improv Project. For $180 you can provide ten weeks of improv training to a child and help ensure they have the opportunity to succeed. These are the faces you'll see at The Coney on September 26, and we've still got a few surprises up our sleeve: more celebrity guests, more auction items up for grabs, and more of the messy good stuff that makes a must-see!

Stage fright used to hold this student back.

Then she learned the truth about improv: you're never alone in a scene. Your partners have your back, and once that clicks, the fear fades and confidence takes over.

Watching students find that confidence, one line, one scene at a time, is one of the one of the best parts of The Improv Project classes.

Has improvising helped you push past a fear? Tell us more below.

Huge news: The Detroit Creativity Project has been awarded a $100K grant from Ilitch Charities / The Ilitch Companies Foundation! Our founder Marc Evan Jackson was thrilled to attend their annual charity golf event to celebrate.

This grant will fuel The Improv Project, bringing the power of improv into Detroit communities. Together, we’re helping Detroit kids build the teamwork and creative thinking skills they use every day at school and in life.

We were so honored to be recognized at the event along with these other outstanding organizations:
Leveling the Playing Field, Inc.
United Community Housing Coalition

Thank you to The Ilitch Companies Foundation for investing in Detroit’s youth and in the future of arts education in our city. We couldn’t do this work without partners like you.

The Coney is for the cause. Every ticket sold (and every donation made) has immediate and long-term support for youth arts programs in Detroit. So, why the arts? Glad you asked. The arts are essential to the wellbeing of kids. And the list of benefits is a long one.

They foster creativity, build confidence, and enhance cognitive, social-emotional, and motor skills. Creative expression allows kids to process emotions, improve problem-solving abilities, and develop critical thinking while also supporting academic growth.

The Coney is raising money to support the kids, experiences and infrastructure of youth arts programs in Detroit.
