Detroit Creativity Project

Detroit Creativity Project We're using improv to empower Detroit area youth to take a creative, collaborative approach to life. The best part? These lessons endure after improv class ends.

We are a nonprofit organization working to make sure every child has the chance to succeed. Through our flagship program, The Improv Project, we’re working to give Detroit's young people tools they can use to make meaningful changes in their lives. These young improvisers gain confidence and learn lessons that would make all of us better people. They develop the ability to collaborate, listen, res

pect others’ views, and build literacy skills. And they learn what is possible when they take risks, practice, and persevere. Along the way many discover who they are, and who they want to become. When you donate to The Detroit Creativity Project, 100% of your money goes to support kids in The Improv Project. For $180 you can provide ten weeks of improv training to a child and help ensure they have the opportunity to succeed. To learn more about The Improv Project or to donate through our website, visit us at www.dcpimprov.org.

We are so grateful to be a 2026 recipient of a Find Your Light Foundation grant!

With their support, we're bringing improv to two Detroit middle schools that don't currently have a theater arts program.

Find Your Light is dedicated to supporting exceptional arts programming where the need is greatest. Like us, they recognize arts education is essential to every child's education.

THANK YOU to all the people who power Find Your Light. You make our work possible!

“Genius is not rare in Detroit.”
It is everywhere! Something we learn EVERY day from the students in our improv classes.

Here’s a quick read from The Skillman Foundation’s Youth Council about the work of 11 creative geniuses in Detroit.

Lucy’s story is a much-needed gift of joy in a chaotic time.

Many thanks to the Youth Council for supporting our own Youth Advisory team in 2025!

The Detroit Education Narrative Collective exhibit — Genius Comes From Detroit — brought together the work of eleven storytellers exploring how genius is cultivated across Detroit.
