Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center most recently served Southeastern Michigan as a residential / foster care agency for children. It was determined that rather than close the doors of the organization, to return to its roots โ€“ providing assistance to the residents of the community through educational programs. At the end of 2006, St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center moved to Detroit and continues its services of helping both children and adults through education.

Today, weโ€™re celebrating the power of nonprofits across Michigan. ๐Ÿ’™

For more than 180 years, St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center has stood alongside individuals and families as they work toward brighter futures through education.

Every day, we see what happens when a community chooses to invest in people. A child gains confidence in the classroom. An adult earns their GED. A learner prepares for college, a new career, or the next step toward a goal they once thought was out of reach.

This is the heart of our mission: to provide educational opportunities, resources, and support that empower individuals to build a better future.

During Charitable Nonprofit Week in Michigan, weโ€™re proud to celebrate not only the work of SVSF, but the incredible nonprofit community that strengthens neighborhoods, creates opportunity, and changes lives every day.

Because when we invest in people, we invest in the future of our entire community. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒŸ Mission Monday | Why Volunteers Matter

Behind every successful student is a community of people who believe in their potential.

Each year, volunteers provide thousands of hours of tutoring, mentoring, and classroom support to help children and adult learners achieve their goals.

One volunteer can make a lasting difference in someone's educational journey. Whether helping a child improve reading skills, supporting an adult learner preparing for the GED, or sharing professional knowledge and encouragement, volunteers help students build confidence and move closer to success.

Volunteers also expand St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center's ability to serve more students while maintaining the quality and personalized support our learners deserve.

Every volunteer hour helps maximize the impact of donor investments and ensures that more Detroit learners have access to the educational opportunities they need to thrive.

Together, volunteers are not just giving their time they are helping change lives and strengthening our community.

We're bridging the gap between education and opportunity one volunteer at a time. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒŸ Mission Monday | Why Early Literacy Matters

Every great future begins with the ability to read.

Children who read proficiently by third grade are significantly more likely to graduate from high school, making early literacy one of the strongest predictors of long-term academic success. Strong reading skills are the foundation for success in every subject. From solving math problems to understanding science concepts and exploring history, reading opens the door to learning.

Early literacy also helps children build confidence, spark curiosity, and develop a lifelong love of learning. When children believe in their abilities, they're more likely to stay engaged, overcome challenges, and reach their full potential.

At St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center, we're helping young learners build the skills they need today so they can create brighter futures tomorrow. Because investing in young readers doesn't just change individual lives it strengthens families, schools, and entire communities.

๐Ÿ’™ Want to help a young reader thrive? Volunteer with our Childrenโ€™s Program! Your time and encouragement can make a meaningful difference in a child's learning journey. https://www.svsfcenter.org/how-to-help/volunteer/

We're bridging the gap between education and opportunity one young reader at a time.

๐Ÿ’™ Community partnerships make learning possible.

A heartfelt thank you to The Good Eggs Foundation for investing in our students and helping create opportunities for learning both inside and outside the classroom.

In addition to supporting our recent hands-on activity, the Good Eggs Foundation generously donated headphones, Common Core ELA workbooks, and microscopes. These resources will benefit our students throughout the year. These tools help make learning more engaging, interactive, and accessible while inspiring curiosity and confidence.

Every partnership and every act of generosity helps us provide meaningful educational experiences that empower students to reach their full potential.

Thank you, Good Eggs Foundation, for believing in the power of education and investing in brighter futures. ๐Ÿ’™
