Last weekend, nearly 100 young men participated in the 20th Annual Threads for Success event in Detroit. They heard inspiring speeches from Larry Brinker Jr. and Thomas Stallworth IV, attended etiquette and interview training sessions with business mentors from across the city, networked at a career fair with companies like BASF, Ikon Technologies, and Palmer Moving Services, and received a custom suit from Tom James Company. We also awarded scholarships totaling more than $5,000 to selected participants!

Thank you to ALL of the volunteers, sponsors, and community leaders who helped make Graduation to Greatness a huge success. We're grateful for your continued support and partnership, and we look forward to continuing our efforts to empower our city's future leaders.

Meet the Jack Philip Scholarship — one of the most heartfelt parts of our annual Threads for Success event.
In January 2022, just one month before his passing, our beloved founder Rob Wachler created this scholarship in the name of his grandson, Jack. Rob's wish was simple and beautiful: that Jack grow up understanding the power of giving back — and of asking others to join you in that mission.

Jack has honored that wish every single year since. In his own words: "My grandfather told me, with great pride, of the difference a simple suit and experience could make on these kids."
This year, Jack is working to raise $3,000 for the scholarship — $2,000 will go to one deserving winner, selected based on their personal story, achievements, and dreams for the future. The remaining $1,000 will be used to buy brand new dress shirts for EVERY participant at Saturday's event.

$40,000 in scholarships. Countless futures transformed. 🎓Glen Arnold received a TFS scholarship in 2015. Today? He’s a firefighter in Highland Park and credits the mentorship, inspiration, and support he received from the program with helping him transition from graduation to greatness.

"It all started with a suit and a chance."

D’Anthony Neal, a 2024 TFS alum, is a sophomore biology major at Norfolk State University who also works at RomoGIS Enterprises as a GIS Specialist. He shares how participating in the program gave him the confidence and inspiration to pursue his dreams.

“It was powerful to see men from all different stages of life and professional development, some fresh out of college, some still in school, some newly hired into their careers, and others who have been in their fields for years, all coming together to pour their time and energy into supporting our future.”
