today was real drawing and artist's watercolor painting on the porch. the kids chose to draw and paint a roller skate.

Today the kids learned a lot of respect for anteaters. Trying to catch ants (when you want them) for the ant farm was more challenging than expected. They got one in and one would crawl out!!

A neighbor next to the neighborhood lot let some birds build a nest on his house. The eggs hatched so the kids watched the baby birds and the momma bird while they played on the swings, made s'mores, and played games.

Last weekend the kids went to Canada. For many of them it was their first trip there. The kids have been crocheting, knitting, fixing bikes, playing in the sandbox and planning dollhouses. Giant leaps of adventure and imagination make fantastic childhoods.

This weekend the kids painted a new garden border for the strawberry/raspberry bed and painted the doors for the little "give a book take a book" house. They then installed them. And in 2 days the doors were ripped off. We will put them back up.

On the Porch, some kids were learning Spanish and German on the laptop and others playing Sorry. Until the the hail came.

Today the kids at school checked out library books. On the Porch, the kids played with play-doh and the pasta maker, built with popsicle sticks, played the new math game, played with Lego, made s'mores, played in the neighborhood lot, played spoons and made a lot of cakes and beverages in the sandbox. It has been a verrry long winter.

Even a warm-ish day of 35 degrees and sun brings kids out. Today, three kids played mancala then marbles.Ron Cleveland's wife Denise taught us marbles long ago and the game rolls on.

today was a field trip to the apple orchard. a packed bus of amazing families and kids enjoyed the sunny day, picking apples and pumpkins, petting zoo, haunted barn and more.

the kids painted their faces like scary clowns, a vampire and a ladybug. Then they decided to give wagon rides. The wagons were attached by rope, filled with screaming and laughing kids pulling each other down the street. there is incredible value in play for children, giving them the chance to create their own world.
