Yesterday at St. Hedwig Park was a reminder of what community is truly all about. ❤️
More than 20 people came together to help clean up the park, and what made the day so special was seeing people from all different backgrounds and places unite for one purpose — giving back.
A surprise addition of Jimmy Rubio’s family coming from Windsor, Canada to help, alongside friends who donated supplies, time, and hard work. One friend from Menards brought lawn bags, gloves, paint supplies, and more to support the cleanup.
One of the most inspiring moments came from someone Jimmy barely knew — the owner of Ynot lawn care llc in Ferndale — Randy, who saw a post about the cleanup and showed up with his fiancée and three employees. They brought equipment, worked hard for hours, and made an incredible impact simply because they wanted to help.
We also received a heartfelt card and donation from the daughter of a St. Hedwig High School Class of 1967 graduate in Windsor who had never even met us, but believed in what we were doing and wanted to support the effort.
That’s the spirit of community. People showing up for one another. Strangers becoming neighbors. Different cities(and countries), different stories, all coming together to make something better.
Thank you to everyone who helped make yesterday such a success. Southwest Detroit has a special kind of heart, and yesterday proved it. 🙏
