Our Joy Southfield Business Association Vendor Showcase scheduled for Tuesday, September 29 has been canceled as we complete important upgrades and maintenance to the property.

We appreciate the support and enthusiasm we’ve received from our vendors, local businesses, and community partners.

More after-school opportunities are available for Detroit families! 🙌🏼 ✨

The City of Detroit is investing $2.2 million to expand GOAL Line Detroit, a free after-school program for K–8 students that provides engaging programming and transportation from participating schools.

GOAL Line locations in District 7 include:

📚 Detroit Public Library – Chaney Branch
📚 Detroit Public Library – Edison Branch
📚 Warrendale Charter Academy
📚 Paul Robeson Malcolm X Academy

With seven new sites opening across Detroit this school year, GOAL Line will now have locations in all seven City Council districts and serve approximately 1,000 additional students.

Need critical repairs to your home? Financial assistance may be available through the Critical Home Repair Program!

This program provides funding to help eligible residents address urgent home repair needs, including:

🔧 Severe plumbing issues
🔧 Actively leaking roofs
🔧 Non-working furnaces or boilers
🔧 Electrical hazards
🔧 Accessibility-related entrance and exit repairs

Detroit residents can apply online at detroitmi.gov!

The deadline to apply is Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Applications will be reviewed and prioritized based on household eligibility, the severity of the home’s repair needs and available funding.

Showing up pays off! 📚💰 The Perfect Attendance Pays program rewards high school students in Detroit Public Schools for being in class and on time.

Beginning in January, eligible DPSCD high school students can earn a $100 gift card for each five-day cycle of perfect attendance, with the opportunity to earn up to $1,000!

And getting to school is easier, too! Through Detroit’s Ride to Rise program, K–12 students can ride standard DDOT buses for FREE, 7 days a week, year-round, simply by showing a valid school-issued ID. 🚌

Regular attendance helps students stay connected, keep up with coursework, and build a strong foundation for academic success! 📚

Great parks help build great neighborhoods! 🌳🏀

This year, the City of Detroit’s Adopt-A-Park program reached a record 90 organizational sign-ons across the city!

Right here in District 7, Simanek Park is undergoing a $3 million transformation that will bring a nature play area, sports fields, playgrounds, shelters, and more. Completion is expected in Summer 2027.

At Joy Southfield, we know that investing in our shared spaces is an investment in the health and vitality of our entire community. We’re excited to see what’s ahead for parks and green spaces across District 7! 🌳🌞
