Stallworth during her tenure in the Michigan Legislature while serving as Chair of the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus; the Foundation was established as a 501-c3 tax exempt organization dedicated to the creation and delivery of service programs which improve the economic circumstances and quality of life for Michigan’s African American citizenry. The Foundation’s creation evolved from a segment of social-economic and political history which continues to frame the advancement of Black America. At the base of this history was the understanding of a cross section of Black leaders that intellectual resources were needed to support research dedicated to the development and implementation of public policy initiatives critical to the well-being of Black people in America and around the globe. The Foundation is dedicated to the development and implementation of programs and initiatives that effectively address issues such as these. Critical to these endeavors will be continued efforts to educate decision makers, both White and Black, to Michigan’s African American political history and advocacy for the Vertical Integration of minorities into business and government operations during the 21st Century.

The Black Caucus Foundation of Michigan was honored to be invited to the 25th Mid-Year Training Institute! We had the opportunity to learn about new strategies, resources, and approaches to strengthen prevention efforts in Detroit and within our school-based programs.

Prevention starts with knowledge, collaboration, and a commitment to creating healthier, safer communities. We’re bringing what we learned back home to continue empowering our youth, supporting our schools, and investing in the well-being of Detroit. 🏙️✨

Together, we can prevent. Together, we can make a difference.

September is National Su***de Prevention and Awareness Month ❤️‍🩹

Here’s the sad but true reality,

* Su***de is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S.

* The su***de death rate for males is nearly 4× the rate for females

* An estimated 14.3 million adults have seriously considered su***de

* 2.2 million adults attempted su***de (2024)

*There were 48,824 deaths by su***de in 2024

* Fi****ms account for 27,593 su***de deaths (2024)

Every life matters. Every conversation matters. And sometimes, simply asking “Are you okay?” can be the first step toward someone getting the support they need.

This month, the Black Caucus Foundation of Michigan is shining a light on the importance of su***de prevention; especially among young people and men, who may face unique pressures around expressing emotions and asking for help.

🫂 Check in on the young people in your life.
💬 Encourage honest conversations about mental health.
🔐 Practice responsible fi***rm storage.
❤️ Remind the men in your life that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Competing against teams from 40 countries, these students showed the world what happens when black excellence, innovation, determination, teamwork, and opportunity come together. ⭐️

🔥 MOTIVATION GETS YOU STARTED. DISCIPLINE KEEPS YOU GOING.

A 30-day cleanse. 75- Hard, A 90-day diet. A burst of motivation. TEMPORARY BEHAVIOR = TEMPORARY RESULTS.

💙Real, lasting change comes from building the discipline to stay consistent even on the days you don’t feel like it.

Motivation might get you out of bed and into the gym, but discipline is what keeps you showing up when that 5 AM alarm goes off and you’d rather stay under the covers. ⏰

💪🏾And just like a muscle, discipline has to be trained.

💵 When you spend your dollars with Black-owned businesses, there’s a greater chance that money continues circulating within the community. Supporting one business can mean supporting a family, creating jobs, strengthening local neighborhoods, and helping entrepreneurs continue to show up for the city they call home.
