Eighty-two years ago today, six P-51 Mustangs of the Tuskegee Airmen's legendary 332nd Fighter Group—better known as the "Red Tails"— flew an important es**rt mission over Lake Lesina, Italy. Their assignment was to protect a Catalina flying boat conducting an air-sea rescue operation, demonstrating the skill, professionalism, and courage that made the Red Tails one of the most respected fighter units of World War II.
Despite facing segregation and discrimination, the Tuskegee Airmen answered the call to serve with distinction, breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations of military aviators.
Today, we honor their service, their sacrifice, and their enduring legacy of excellence.
