We see the face of Christ in the faces of those who are suffering. Vincent de Paul - Detroit has been providing Southeastern Michigan (the counties of Lapeer, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, and Wayne) with goods and services at little or no cost. Through your donations, grants, volunteering and contributions, Vincentians help people in need. It doesn't matter what race, religion, or ethnic origin, if someone needs help, we are there to assist. St. Vincent is not just about serving; we strive to preserve the dignity of all individuals and their families. This tenet of maintaining unity is a defining characteristic of the Society and our work.

We're grateful for opportunities to expand food access and nutrition knowledge in our community.

Through a grant, the Michigan Fitness Foundation provided our Community Market with equipment, literature, and programming to help us serve our neighbors in need. We affixed shelf-talkers to give shoppers additional nutrition information about their groceries. Recipe cards were available to give shoppers ideas for healthy meals. Shoppers also went home with cooking tools and tips for food storage and preparation.

Xavier was sleeping in his car while he waited for an apartment to open up. When his employer found out, he lost the job.

He called SVdP Detroit's Conference at St. Joseph in Trenton and told them he wanted to make something of himself.

They covered that month's rent. They furnished the apartment because he had almost nothing to his name. When his car broke down and the next job was at risk, they paid for the repairs. When he was accepted into CDL training that paid nothing while he studied, they carried the rent until he finished.

Now, he drives a truck and has a new baby. The Vincentians still call.

Vincentians are members of SVdP Detroit who feel called to serve and want to grow in faith as they do so. Friendship, spirituality, and service are the three pillars our work rests on, and members will tell you those are the three things it gives back.

Camp Ozanam can host 242 guests across 34 acres in Carsonville. Camp Stapleton can host 176 guests on 20 lakefront acres in Lexington. Both sit on Lake Huron.

Today is the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul.

He spent his life among people who were sick and struggling, and he built the organizations to carry that work on after him. In 1833, a group of students in Paris took his name for a society of their own.

Almost two centuries later, Vincentians from these organizations are still knocking on doors in Metro Detroit.
