🎉🎂 A very happy 53rd birthday to Alan Chin, copilot of Facing Change: Documenting America (FCDA) and the Documenting DETROIT project! Freep Film Festival’s opening film has been announced— ‘Rouge’ is a documentary that follows the winningest high school basketball team in Michigan state history, and was produced by DD Alum Razi Jafri! Get your tickets to see the film, on April 10 at the Detroit Film Theatre.

The 11th annual documentary film festival will take place in April at the Detroit Film Theatre, inside the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Photographer Amy Sacka (2016 DD Alum) and Detroit Free Press Visuals Editor Kathy Kieliszewski (DD friend, mentor, and Board member) paired up to bring Amy’s “Love Letters to Belle Isle” to the press! Over 700 letters were collected and a selection of them are shown alongside a thoughtful edit of Amy’s thousands of photos of the island park. What’s the thing you love most about Belle Isle? We’re thrilled to hear that 2018 Doc Detroit Alum Shiraz Ahmed, director of the documentary Alive in Detroit, has been selected to participate in NBCU Academy’s Original Voices Accelerator!

This program and funding will help complete his documentary feature this year, and connect the film to programmers and broadcasters who can get it on screens around the world.
