This special evening is an opportunity to experience their final projects, recognize their dedication, and celebrate the bright future they're helping create.

Week 1 of the 313 Block Remix summer youth fellowship is officially in the books, and our fellows are already making a massive impact! 🚀

We kicked off the week by building connections as a cohort and accomplished intergenerational interviews with seniors. Our youth sat down with local Detroit seniors to listen and learn exactly what it takes to navigate our Detroit neighborhoods and age in place safely.

Armed with those stories, we took the learning outside! 🥾 Huge thank you to the Detroit Land Bank Authority and Gettin 2 Da Rootz for leading an incredible site visit. Our fellows measured property boundaries, audited the sidewalks for accessibility barriers, and explored the powerful roots of urban farming in our communities. 🌱

To cap off the week, we headed back to the tech lab. The youth are now translating those real-world measurements and community stories into our digital software, preparing to build their accessible, 3D "Smart Blocks" in Virtual Reality! 🖥️🛠️

Empowering Detroit youth to design a smarter, safer future for our seniors. 💡🏙️

This July, Strategic Community Solutions is launching our 6-week 313 Block Remix summer fellowship!

Our youth fellows aren't doing physical construction—they are using their minds and cutting-edge technology to rethink how our neighborhoods function. Using tools like virtual reality, these high schoolers will be designing smart-tech, block-wide solutions aimed at making our community more accessible so our senior "Gems" can safely age in place.

To make this innovative program a reality, we need your support!

We have launched a GoFundMe to help cover the costs of the technology, equipment, and digital resources our youth fellows need to bring these ideas to life. By donating, you are investing in the next generation of Detroit innovators and the seniors they are designing for.

Dirt on our hands, pride in our block! What a weekend on Birwood. 🌸💪

We are stepping into this Monday feeling incredibly proud of our community!

This past weekend, the Strategic Community Solutions team rolled up our sleeves alongside the amazing Birwood Block Club for our spring beautification project, and it was a massive success. Together, we put in the sweat equity to completely clean out the two alleys on the east side of the street, provided fresh topsoil, mulch, and a beautiful variety of flowers for the block.

Seeing neighbors come together to transform and uplift the neighborhood is exactly what Detroit is all about. A huge thank you to everyone who came out to get their hands dirty with us, and to the Neighborhood Beautification Grant (Cohort 5!) for making this possible.

But the momentum doesn't stop here! This coming Saturday, we are heading back out to tackle the alley on the west side of the block, and we need your help to finish the job.

Powerful partnerships make beautiful neighborhoods. 🌻🤝

At Strategic Community Solutions, we believe that true community stabilization is built on collaboration and shared pride.

This weekend, we are incredibly excited to kick off our spring planting in direct partnership with the Birwood Block Club! Thanks to the Neighborhood Beautification grant (proud to represent Cohort 5!), our teams will be spending the weekend rolling up our sleeves. We will be tackling spring yard cleanups, laying down fresh topsoil and mulch, and planting a massive variety of flowers up and down the block.

This is about more than just landscaping. It is about creating welcoming, vibrant, well-cared-for spaces that our community can enjoy and feel proud of.

Let’s make the block bloom this weekend! ✨

You are the bridge. And bridges need reinforcement, too. 🌉💙

For Mental Health Awareness Month, we often talk about the anxiety our youth are facing, or the isolation our seniors (our "Gems") experience. Both are incredibly important conversations.

But today, we need to talk about the people in the middle. The "In-Between."

If you are raising teenagers while caring for aging parents...
If you are the "strong one" in your family...
If you are building your career while managing everyone else's appointments and emotional needs...

You are the bridge connecting the foundation of our city (our Gems) to its future (our Youth). But a bridge carrying that much weight cannot stand forever without maintenance.

The mental health of the "In-Between" generation is often the most ignored because you are too busy surviving. But your mental health matters just as much as the people you are caring for. It is not a luxury to step back, rest, and reinforce your own foundation—it is a necessity. You cannot hold the generations together if you are falling apart.

Take a breath today. Give yourself some grace. Detroit needs you healthy.

There is something incredibly powerful about the shift into spring here in Detroit. It’s more than just the weather changing; it’s a reminder of resilience and renewal. As the trees fill back in and our neighborhood sidewalks get a little busier, it’s a perfect time to look at our surroundings with fresh eyes. These small, shared spaces—from front porches to neighborhood parks—are where our city connects. Take a moment to really experience the spaces you call home this weekend. This massive 29-mile loop is actively changing how our neighborhoods connect, bringing fresh energy and accessible, active spaces to the city.
