At Life Remodeled, we believe every Detroit neighborhood carries a legacy worth honoring and a future worth building together. Through the movement, we remain committed to investing in people and places while celebrating the history, culture, and resilience that make Detroit neighborhoods so powerful.

Did you know the North End played a major role in shaping Detroit’s cultural and musical identity? Annexed into the City of Detroit in 1891, the neighborhood became a hub for influential Black-owned businesses, creatives, entrepreneurs, and legendary Motown artists. The North End helped shape the sound and story of jazz, blues, Motown, and techno music that continues to influence the world today.

Today, neighborhoods across Detroit continue evolving through community investment, entrepreneurship, education, and revitalization efforts. Through spaces like the Durfee Innovation Society and soon Anchor Detroit, Life Remodeled remains committed to help create opportunities centered around workforce development, youth engagement, entrepreneurship, and long-term community impact.

We know Detroit’s future is shaped neighborhood by neighborhood, and we are a champion for Detroit neighborhood revitalization.

A strong school year deserves a strong celebration. 🎊

Our Life Remodeled Youth Alliance (LRYA) students recently came together to celebrate the end of the school year, enjoy time with one another, and look ahead to what’s next this summer. Moments like these are about more than just fun. They’re about creating space for young people to build relationships, feel supported, and be reminded that they belong in the conversations shaping their community.

At Life Remodeled, leadership development starts early. Through the LRYA, high school students help shape programs, priorities, and opportunities connected to the Durfee Innovation Society and the surrounding neighborhood.

Working alongside students from Central High School, the LRYA ensures youth voices are not just included, but valued. From sharing ideas to advocating for student needs, these young leaders are helping create meaningful change right now.

Investing in young people today strengthens the future of our communities tomorrow.

What happens when communities have access to spaces designed to truly serve them?

For families, it can look like support during one of the most important moments of life.

Recently, Blue Cross Complete of Michigan hosted a Community Baby Shower at the Durfee Innovation Society, bringing together resources, support, education, and care for mothers and growing families in Detroit.

But this story is bigger than one event.

It’s about what becomes possible when neighborhoods have consistent access to spaces built for community impact. Through the Opportunity Hub model, organizations and partners are able to connect directly with residents in meaningful ways that support healthier, stronger communities.

This is why the work matters.
This is why these spaces matter.

And this is why continuing to invest in neighborhood revitalization and community-centered opportunity hubs across Detroit is so important.

Imagine what’s possible when even more communities have access to spaces like this.

Today, we’re reminded that strong communities are built through service, sacrifice, and people choosing to invest in something bigger than themselves.

Across Detroit, neighborhood revitalization is happening because residents, volunteers, partners, and supporters continue showing up for one another. Real change takes commitment. It takes people who believe every block, every family, and every neighborhood deserves the opportunity to thrive.

As summer begins, the question is not whether Detroit’s communities are worth investing in — they are. The question is:

How will you help strengthen Detroit this summer?

Whether through volunteering, mentoring, giving, or simply showing up, every action helps create safer neighborhoods, brighter futures, and stronger communities.

Together, we can continue the work of revitalizing Detroit — one neighborhood at a time.

Esports is no longer “just gaming.” It’s technology, teamwork, scholarships, careers, and a growing industry creating new opportunities for young people.

That’s why the Future Firsts Denby Esports team recently toured Western Michigan University’s esports lab to experience firsthand what collegiate-level esports looks like.

Students had the opportunity to explore the arena, compete in the lab, and experience firsthand the technology, innovation, and competitive environment driving the esports industry. More importantly, they gained exposure to opportunities within reach helping them envision futures shaped by post-secondary education, esports, and technology-related careers.

At Life Remodeled, we believe creating opportunities starts with creating access, exposure, and experiences that help young people envision a future beyond what they may see every day.

The future is bigger than a screen.

When the doors of Anchor Detroit open, they’ll open to more than a building, they’ll open to opportunity, connection, and a stronger future for Detroit’s East Side. From workforce development and education to spaces that bring neighbors together, Anchor Detroit is being built with community at the center of it all.

Behind the scenes, volunteers have been showing up all month long in a big way. They have spent countless hours cleaning, restoring, and transforming Anchor Detroit. Every hour served by every person giving their time helped to bring this vision to life, creating a place where people can gather, grow, connect, and thrive.

This is what transformation looks like.
People showing up for people.

To the volunteers, thank you for your dedication to revitalizing our neighborhoods.

What happens when some children receive hundreds of thousands more invested in their education than others?

In this powerful moment from Better Things Podcast, Diallo Smith and Kimberly Johnson, Founder, President & CEO of Developing K.I.D.S. (Kingdoms In Different Stages), discuss a statistic that puts educational inequality into perspective:

Over a 12-year span, some students have had nearly $720,000 more invested in their educational experience.

That gap impacts opportunities, exposure, support, and outcomes, which is why quality after-school and out-of-school programming matters so deeply for inner-city youth.

This episode is an important conversation about community, access, and creating better futures for our children.
