“For the first time in a long time, I was able to present what I had, and it was enough.”

That’s how Antoine M. Hayes describes his experience as a member of the first cohort of the Black Leaders Detroit Building Fund.

For many developers and entrepreneurs, access to capital can feel like an obstacle course. But Antoine says the Building Fund offered something different: a fair, realistic opportunity to help move a project from vision to reality.

“It wasn’t easy. It’s not a giveaway. It’s not for free. But it’s fair.”

The Building Fund was designed to help close the financing gap for Detroit developers who have already put in the work, built experience, and have skin in the game. Antoine met the qualifications, brought his own equity to the table, and found a partner committed to helping him reach the finish line.

We’re proud to support projects that strengthen our neighborhoods and create opportunities for Detroit’s future.

Detroit’s neighborhoods deserve to benefit from Detroit’s growth.

We’re honored to see Black Leaders Detroit’s Building Fund featured in Crain’s Detroit Business. The article highlights how our no-interest loan program is helping developers of African descent access the capital needed to rehabilitate homes, strengthen neighborhoods, and create opportunities for Detroiters who have long invested in this city.

This work is about more than real estate. It’s about ensuring that the people who have stayed, built, and believed in Detroit have the opportunity to participate in its future.

Thank you to our members, partners, and supporters who make this work possible. Every dollar invested helps create pathways to ownership, revitalization, and generational wealth across our communities.

Detroit is car country. Always has been. That’s why this Juneteenth, we’re honoring a true Detroit trailblazer; Edward Davis. 🚘

Ed Davis became the first African American in the country to own a new car dealership and the first to secure a Big Three auto franchise right here on Dexter in Detroit. His legacy helped pave the way for Black entrepreneurship in the Motor City.

To celebrate that legacy, we’re bringing a classic car show to Juneteenth Jubilee on the Block on Saturday, June 20 from 1PM–7PM at 12305 Dexter Ave.

This is more than a car show. It’s a celebration of Black history, Black business, and Detroit culture.

Pull up. Bring the family. Let’s celebrate the legacy of Edward Davis together.
