Happy Mother’s Day to every mother, grandmother, bonus mom, grieving mother, expectant mother, and woman nurturing others through love, care, and sacrifice. πŸ’œ

Today, we celebrate the strength of Black mothers, women who so often carry families, communities, and generations on their backs while still finding ways to show up with grace and resilience.

At UBMA, we believe mothers deserve more than flowers one day a year. We believe mothers deserve wellness. Rest. Community. Support. Access to care. And healthy futures.

That is why our Annual Heart Health Walkathon continues through the end of May. β™₯️

Heart disease remains one of the leading health concerns impacting Black women, and this walk is our reminder to prioritize ourselves too. To move our bodies. To care for our hearts. To heal in community.

✨ Our goal is to raise $10,000 to continue supporting Black mothers through wellness programming, health education, community outreach, and direct support initiatives.

Because of our incredible village, we’ve already raised $2,580 β€” and we are so grateful. But we still have work to do.

If UBMA has impacted you, inspired you, or if you believe in supporting the health and wellness of Black mothers, we invite you to walk with us and/or donate.

Every step matters. Every dollar matters. Every mother matters.

This Thanksgiving, UBMA showed up for our community in a powerful way.

Thanks to the generosity of our village, we partnered with Brightmoor Connection Food Pantry in Detroit to support families facing food insecurity. UBMA presented a $1000 check to Executive Director Reverend Roslyn Bouier to help replenish food supplies just as they were running low, ensuring hundreds of families had what they needed and deserved through the holiday weekend.

We also partnered with the Rhonda Walker Foundation, providing $250 Meijer grocery gift cards to mothers who needed help feeding their families this holiday season. One of those moms, Kyra Gibbs (pictured), a mother of five, was not only gifted a UBMA grocery card, but she was also surprised with a brand new car from Detroit's own Big Sean. What a holiday blessing for her family! Her joy reminded us why this work matters so deeply. πŸ™πŸΎ

Thanksgiving is about giving, caring and community. And because of you, mothers across Detroit felt seen, supported and nourished.

Thank you UBMA village for showing up and helping us pour love where it's needed most.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. πŸ’œ

UBMA started with one simple goal: to create safe spaces for Black mothers to breathe, heal, and thrive.

5 years later, our mission hasn't changed and our community needs us more than ever right now πŸ’œ

The now 36-day government shutdown has left families hungry. We're partnering with Brightmoor Connection Food Pantry to feed families in need, and we're asking our village to show up once again.

Here's how:

πŸ’œ Sponsor a mom with a $250 donation so we can provide grocery gift cards to families throughout SE Michigan who need it most.

πŸ’œ Volunteer your time to serve meals and distribute resources at Brightmoor. (*details in today's newsletter, DM if you did not receive)

If you can't give $250, every contribution counts. Together, we can make sure families have food on the table this Thanksgiving. Donate at link in bio -or- directly on our website. πŸ’œ

Hello and happy Thoughtful Thursday. πŸ’œThis past Sunday, UBMA proudly celebrated five years of creating safe spaces for Black mothers and women to prioritize their wellness. We were honored to welcome six dynamic health professionals and thought leaders who shared their expertise around four critical pillars of wellness that disproportionately impact Black women: Heart Health, Mental Wellness, Maternal Care, and Financial Stability.Heart Health is the leading cause of death for Black women in the United States; nearly 1 in 2 Black women over age 20 has some form of heart disease. In this clip, you will hear insights and expert advice from Henry Ford Health Interventional Cardiologist, Dr. Brittany Fuller. In the coming days, we will share more clips from our esteemed panel of experts. Thank you for a powerful and impactful day of learning, community and sisterhood.
