One of our favorite things? Hosting local designers and showing them what ISAIC has to offer. 🧵✨

Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of welcoming the talented designers from Dusk ‘til Daun to ISAIC’s new headquarters for a behind-the-scenes look at our expanded space and the future of textile manufacturing in Detroit!

From exploring our new facility to getting hands-on with advanced manufacturing technologies and creative production techniques, the visit highlighted what’s possible when innovation and design come together.

❤️ One of the best parts of what we do is connecting with local designers and makers at every stage of their journey. Whether you’re just starting out or growing an established brand, we’re committed to making industry-leading equipment, training, and expertise more accessible than ever.

As we continue settling into our new home, we’re excited to open our doors to even more creators, entrepreneurs, and manufacturers—building skills, strengthening our local industry, and shaping the future of manufacturing together.

🚨⏰ Hey Hey!-- This is your last chance to register for the Make Your Own Dress Shirt Workshop!

👔 In this hands-on workshop, held in our new space on the 4th floor of the College for Creative Studies' A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education, participants will create their own dress shirts. All materials are provided, along with optional training and assistance throughout the session. (Participants should have basic experience using a straight stitch machine)

The workshop runs for six hours over the course of 3 days, including one hour of total breaks each day. By the end, each participant will leave with a handmade dress shirt to their size and design preferences. 🎉👔

Congrats, Cohort 29 graduates! 🌟🎓

Our final Accelerated Fundamentals of Industrial Sewing cohort of 2026 has officially graduated 🎉

Over the course of two weeks, participants completed ISAIC’s 65-hour Accelerated course—a fast-track version of our Fundamentals program designed for individuals interested in pursuing careers in industrial textile manufacturing.

Through hands-on training, participants gained experience operating single-needle lockstitch, coverstitch, and serger machines, while also building foundational knowledge of manufacturing principles and technical documentation.

ICYMI, we're thrilled to be part of Detroit Month of Design once again this September!

Here's a look back at one of our favorite moments from last year's PIN-UP upcycling + pin felting workshop, hosted by 2025 Pin-Felting R&D Grant Winner, Sophie Yan (+ attended by our 2026 Pin-Felting R&D Grant Winner,
Vinitha Parthiban!) where designers, makers, and creatives came together to get hands-on, explore new manufacturing technologies, and connect with others who are passionate about building what's next.

At ISAIC, that's what Detroit Month of Design is all about: creating opportunities to learn, collaborate, and experience the future of making right here in Detroit.

Historic news for the future of advanced manufacturing, and ISAIC is honored to be a part of it.

We're thrilled to announce our role as a core partner in FutureTEX, a groundbreaking 10-year Department of War initiative working to modernize textile manufacturing in the United States and strengthen our nation’s defense capabilities.

FutureTEX brings together industry, government, universities, and nonprofits to advance textile manufacturing technologies for military and domestic applications, while investing in workforce development, modern facilities, and next-generation equipment.

And we’re in incredible company. Led by NC State, FutureTEX brings together core partners including Drexel University, Gaston College, Georgia Tech, UMass Lowell, and ISAIC.

This is a major investment in the future of U.S. textile manufacturing, and we’re excited to get to work alongside our amazing partners.

Meet Emily, ISAIC alum and founder of KIP Studio 🌿🧵

Built on the belief that discarded textiles deserve a second life, KIP Studio creates thoughtfully designed products using primarily secondhand materials, proving that sustainability and functionality can go hand in hand. 🤝

With support from ISAIC's Design2Manufacturing grant, Emily is expanding from handcrafted production in her home studio to scalable manufacturing through R&D, professional patternmaking, and sample development.

For Emily, manufacturing in Detroit means investing back into the local community, reducing environmental impact, and partnering with a manufacturer that values the health, safety, and dignity of its workforce.

We're proud to support entrepreneurs like Emily who are building the future of ethical manufacturing—right here in Detroit. 💙

Big news for Detroit’s apparel and textile ecosystem. 🚀

ISAIC is partnering with Tukatech to bring Michigan’s only TUKAcenter to our new headquarters at CCS’s Taubman Center for Design Education!

This partnership expands access to industry-leading apparel design technology, product development tools, and technical expertise in order to help entrepreneurs, designers, manufacturers, and growing brands to turn ideas into reality.

Behind the scenes, our staff has been hard at work mastering the new technology and equipment to ensure the TUKAcenter is ready to support brands, entrepreneurs, designers, and innovators.

Together, we’re lowering barriers to innovation, strengthening workforce development, and creating new opportunities for Detroit’s fashion and manufacturing community.
