Innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning — all in one visit. 🧵⚙️

Last month, ISAIC had the opportunity to be onsite at Drexel University’s Center for Functional Fabrics working alongside their team to help document training on their advanced knitting and warping equipment. Seeing these high-tech machines in action and learning directly from industry experts was an incredible experience for our team.

At ISAIC, we believe skilling and innovation go hand in hand. We’re proud to collaborate with organizations that share our mission of advancing textile manufacturing in the U.S. through new technologies, tools, processes, and products. 🇺🇸

🎉 Congratulations to our newest Design 2 Manufacturing Grant winners! 🎉

We’re proud to announce this year’s selected innovators: Emily Sioma of KIP Studio and Sydni Warner of DUEY.

Through ISAIC’s Design 2 Manufacturing Program, these creators will receive mentorship, technical resources, and production support to help scale their ideas from concept to manufacturing — all while advancing innovation, sustainability, and thoughtful design within Detroit’s growing creative ecosystem. 🧵⚙️

Emily’s KIP Studio Bouquet Bags and Covers rethink how flowers are transported and gifted through functional, sustainable design. Originally created using secondhand button-down shirts, the project combines sustainability with everyday usability while exploring scalable production solutions for future growth. 🌸

Sydni’s DUEY project challenges how we view hair protection through two collections: The Classics Collection and The KINU (絹) Collection. Rooted in Black culture and centered around craftsmanship, functionality, and fashion, the collections elevate bonnets, durags, and related pieces into thoughtful expressions of design, luxury, and identity.✨

We can’t wait to support these designers as they continue bringing their visions to life through advanced manufacturing and innovation at ISAIC. Stay tuned to follow their journeys! ❤️

Skills Acquired: Make Your Own Dress Shirt 👔✅

What an amazing time it was here at ISAIC as participants learned how to make their very own Dress shirt! Hosted by Olivia Marshall, ISAIC's Skilling Manager, creatives had the opportunity to learn and use industrial sewing machines creating custom clothing using both ISAIC's and their own materials!

At ISAIC, we are continuously developing the skilling in the work we do, ensuring our community has opportunity to increase their skills to create a more innovative and sustainable environment for everyone.

The power of gathering ✨

Last month, ISAIC’s Project Manager of Training & Innovation, Cassie Franklin, and Skilling Manager, Olivia Marshall, attended the 2026 National Gathering hosted by Mechanism.

This year’s theme, “Imagining the Future of Local Production,” in partnership with the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Commerce, brought together makers, manufacturers, policymakers, educators, artists, faith organizations, community leaders, and more to strategize, collaborate, and envision what’s possible when production is rooted in community, care, and shared stewardship.

Over the course of three days, Cassie and Olivia toured the area, learned from rapid-share presenters showcasing innovative practices, and participated in a collaborative design challenge alongside professionals from a wide range of backgrounds — from CEOs and project managers to subject matter experts.

“It was an amazing experience to be part of. We’re in the discussion as part of the solution, and I walked away feeling hopeful about the future of local production.”
- Cassie Franklin

Thank you again to Mechanism for having us! We’re already looking forward to the next gathering. ❤️

One month ago today, we celebrated our annual ISAIC Honors event in our new home at the College for Creative Studies’ A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education, surrounded by friends, family, supporters, alumni, and honorees.

It was a full-circle moment as we hosted the official ribbon-cutting ceremony (shoutout to Mayor Sheffield), honored the 2026 award recipients, and raised more than $25,000 to directly support expanded access to ISAIC’s equipment, global expertise, extended building hours, and programming for 50 community members in our new space.

The evening was filled with gratitude, celebration, and a shared passion for innovation and transformation.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. And if you weren’t able to attend, we hope this video makes you feel like you were there.❤️

It’s been a big news week in sustainable fashion following SHEIN’s reported acquisition of Everlane, a brand founded in 2010 and known for its trailblazing approach to sustainability.

Everlane was once considered the antithesis of SHEIN, which has faced criticism for cheap prices, rapid production, textile waste, and ongoing concerns from fair labor and sustainability advocates.

So, what does this mean for the future of sustainability? Does it mark, as Vogue Business put it, the “Death of Millennial Sustainability?”

Follow the link below to hear what ISAIC President & CEO Jennifer Guarino and other industry leaders have to say about this pivotal moment in sustainable manufacturing.

From concept to creation ✨

Recent CCS 2026 graduate, Maxwell Honeycutt partnered with ISAIC to bring his senior thesis designs to life using advanced manufacturing technology, such as Tukatech single-ply laser cutter to create intricate details, and hands-on collaboration at our Innovation Center. From digital development to final production, it’s inspiring to see the next generation of designers push boundaries through innovation and creativity. 🧵⚙️

We’re proud to support emerging talent and continue building stronger connections between education, technology, and the future of fashion alongside College for Creative Studies and College for Creative Studies Fashion Design Program. We are excited to see much more of these creative partnerships in our move to CCS!
