Kwanzaa is a seven-day celebration that honors African and African American culture, family, and community. It starts on December 26 and ends on January 1.

Each day has a special value, called a principle, called Nguzo Saba:
1. Umoja – working together as one
2. Kujichagulia – believing in yourself and speaking up for who you are
3. Ujima – helping each other and our community
4. Ujamaa – supporting Black-owned businesses
5. Nia – finding your purpose
6. Kuumba – being creative and making things beautiful
7. Imani – having faith in ourselves and our future

Kids light one candle each night, talk about the principle, and celebrate their family, culture, and dreams. Kwanzaa is all about kindness, community, creativity, and being proud of who you are.

The Winter Solstice is the day when we have the least sunlight and the longest night of the whole year. For thousands of years, families and communities have celebrated this day because it marks the moment when the sun starts coming back and the days slowly get brighter again.

Kids can see it as:
❄A time to rest
❄A time to think about positive changes
❄A time to celebrate that brighter days are on the way
❄A reminder that growth happens even in quiet seasons

It’s all about slowing down, being grateful, and welcoming the return of light.

This week’s spotlight is all about sisterhood in action 👭🏾✨ The smiles, the encouragement, the teamwork — it’s what makes Girlz.Empowered more than just a program… it’s a family.

From helping each other master new skills to reminding one another of their worth, these are the moments that build lifelong confidence and community. ❤️

Let’s keep showing up for each other, celebrating every win (big or small), and pouring love back into our sisterhood. Because when one girl rises, we all rise together. 🌸

Let’s talk real-life empowerment 💕 These young ladies were scared to try mini golf because they didn’t think that they could hit it in the hole, they were going to quit, but they decided to keep going and they empowered themselves. What makes you feel empowered? Drop your answer below ⬇️
