OFW on the front page of WSJ Magazine!

If there was no subminimum wage for tipped workers, employers would not have any incentive to spread tipping to new environments in order to pay people less, and workers would have a stable wage even as tipping declines.

The mayor and city councilmembers uplifted new legislation that would require restaurants to pay tipped workers a full minimum wage plus tips on top, ending Chicago’s subminimum wage for tipped workers, currently 60% of the city’s $15.40 minimum wage.

They're twice as likely to need food stamps as the rest of the US workforce, and three times as likely to live in poverty.
