Thursday night, your IES Detroit Section completed the 3rd Module of our Fall 2026 Delivery of the Fundamentals of Lighting. Adrian Latona, a local AIA Young Architect of the Year, presented Daylighting to our attendees. In recent weeks, Introduction to Lighting and Lights Sources was presented by Elizabeth Williams and Darko Banfic. Thanks to all previous and future instructors for kicking off an excellent educational opportunity for Our lighting community!

The IES Detroit 12th Annual John Selander Memorial Golf Outing was a tremendous success, made even better by perfect weather and an incredible community. The IES eLearning Portal reached 10,000 users this month! We thank the lighting community for their incredible participation and support in making the IES the industry’s best resource for learning.

Since its launch in 2020, the IES has issued 12,921 CEUs and counting! With more than 200 courses available, some of the most popular topics include foundational topics and vocabulary building, landscape lighting techniques and technology, color specification and color science, GUV for architectural applications, and roadway lighting design.

The IES is announcing a new management agreement with the National Lighting Bureau (NLB), effective September 1, 2026. Under the agreement, IES assumes administrative, operational, and financial management of NLB, with day-to-day administrative and operational functions handled by Tom Butters, NLB's current Executive Director. NLB retains its own Board of Directors and full independence over its programming and strategic direction, consistent with the shared management model IES already uses with the National Council on Qualifications for Lighting Professions (NCQLP) and the Audio Engineering Society (AES).
