Water Justice Is Reproductive Justice!

Wisdom Institute is proud to be part of Water, Power & Policy: From Michigan to the Nation, a national convening bringing Michigan’s Black community leadership to Washington, DC, curated by MCRJ during Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Legislative Conference Week.

Wisdom Institute Co-Executive Director Cicely Allenwill joins leaders from across Michigan to highlight the connection between water access, reproductive health, family well-being, environmental justice, and community power.

Through Wisdom Institute’s womb-centered approach and initiatives like Water in the Womb and the Trusted Messenger Network, we know that access to safe, affordable water is essential to healthy families and thriving communities.

This convening will spotlight Michigan’s Affordable Water Now policy efforts and federal water affordability legislation and the power of Black communities to transform lived experience into policy solutions that can move the nation forward.

🚨 **DETROIT HOUSING JUSTICE UPDATE**

The 36th District Court is seeking to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the Detroit Tenants Union challenging the court’s handling of nonpayment eviction cases involving landlords without valid Certificates of Compliance.

A Certificate of Compliance confirms that a rental property has passed required safety inspections. The outcome of this case could determine whether judges must verify a landlord’s compliance before awarding rent or possession—or whether tenants must know to raise the issue themselves. A hearing is scheduled for September 21, 2026.

Safe housing protections should not depend on a tenant’s ability to understand and argue a technical legal defense. This issue is especially urgent for Black women-headed households, who are disproportionately represented in Detroit eviction cases!

Basketball was their activity of choice during the Womb Festival. The festival was enjoyed by people of all ages. Food and drink vendors served until it all ran out. Folks loving every bite.
The sounds of children playing and fun times is so therapeutic.

🌿 WOMB LIBERATION FESTIVAL 2026 — WE DID IT! RAIN & SHINE!🌿

What a beautiful day of healing, joy, sisterhood, creativity, and collective care.💜

Our 4th Annual Womb Liberation Festival brought our community together to honor the International Day for Women and Girls of African Descent.

✨ 100+ community members gathered
✨ Black women, families, and children connected through art, healing, and advocacy
✨ Healing spaces created room for restoration, reflection, and joy
✨ Artists, facilitators, vendors, volunteers, and community partners shared their gifts
✨ We celebrated the wisdom, resilience, and power of Black women and girls

The festival was more than an event. It was a practice of liberation. A reminder that our healing, joy, creativity, and collective care are powerful forms of resistance.

To every participant, community member, artist, facilitator, vendor, staff member, volunteer, supporter, and sponsor who helped bring our 4th Annual Womb Liberation Festival to life — THANK YOU.💜

We are deeply grateful to everyone who continues to believe in the vision and help us create spaces where Black women, girls, families, and communities can heal, gather, imagine, and thrive.
