Wisdom Institute creates space for economic security through reproductive justice advocacy by recognizing that financial stability is essential to reproductive freedom, family well-being, and self-determination. The ability to make decisions about one's body, raise children, and build a healthy future is deeply connected to access to affordable housing, water, health care, living-wage opportunities, and the resources needed to care for oneself and one's family.

Through a healing justice and community-centered approach, Wisdom Institute connects the economic realities facing Black women, girls, and families in Detroit to broader efforts for reproductive, housing, environmental, and gender justice.

OUR RIGHTS ARE NOT UP FOR GRABS!

Michigan’s reproductive freedoms and voting rights were hard-won through years of advocacy, organizing, and the power of our collective voices. In 2022, Michigan voters enshrined reproductive freedom and strengthened voting protections in our state Constitution. Now, Proposal 1 would ask voters whether to convene a Constitutional Convention (Con-Con) to consider rewriting the entire Michigan Constitution.

Opening the Constitution to a complete revision could put these hard-won protections at risk. While no rights would be automatically removed by calling a convention, delegates could propose changes that would ultimately return to voters for approval.

At Wisdom Institute, we know reproductive justice is connected to our ability to make decisions about our bodies, our families, our futures, and our democracy. Protecting our rights means protecting our power to shape the policies that impact our lives.

Wisdom Institute advocates for housing stability by recognizing that housing is a reproductive justice issue. A safe and stable home is foundational to a person’s ability to make decisions about their body, experience a healthy pregnancy and postpartum recovery, raise children, and build a life rooted in dignity and self-determination.

Through our involvement and leadership with the Detroit Right to Counsel Coalition (DRTCC), Wisdom Institute connects housing justice with the lived experiences of Black women, mothers, children, and families. This work recognizes that eviction is not simply a housing issue; it can disrupt family stability, maternal well-being, access to health care, and the relationships and resources families depend on.

Wisdom Institute creates space for families through reproductive justice advocacy by recognizing that reproductive freedom extends beyond the right to have or not have children. It also includes the right to raise children in safe, healthy, stable, and supportive communities, with access to the resources families need to thrive.

Through a healing justice, community-centered approach, Wisdom Institute connects reproductive justice to housing stability, water affordability, environmental health, maternal and infant well-being, and the dignity of Black women, girls, and families.

Our voices hold power, and our participation matters!
The Wisdom Institute is bringing community together to encourage civic engagement and remind our neighbors that showing up is part of building the future we want to see. 💜

Voting is one way to make our voices heard, but being informed, encouraging our neighbors, and staying engaged in the issues that affect our families and communities matter, too.

We're making room for community, connection, and collective action because our voices deserve to be heard, our concerns deserve attention, and our communities deserve a seat at the table.

What happens when we use our voices and creativity to speak truth about eviction, displacement, and housing justice? We create space for stories that deserve to be heard!

Join the Detroit Right to Counsel Coalition for Slam Evictions: Open Mic Night, an evening bringing together artists, tenants, birth workers, and community partners for creativity, connection, and community power.

Come connect with tenant rights information, voting rights resources, community support, and a healing justice practice space. Let's use art to raise awareness about Detroit's eviction crisis and build support for fully funding and implementing Right to Counsel!

How often are Black women expected to show up for everybody else, say yes when we mean no, and carry responsibilities that leave little room for ourselves?
