June is Men's Health Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about preventable health conditions, promoting mental wellness, and encouraging early detection and treatment of diseases that disproportionately affect men, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and cardiovascular disease.

The Drug Free Youth in Detroit Coalition's Advisory Board Members meet every 3rd Wednesday of the month to discuss impactful initiatives and strategies that promote healthy lifestyles, substance-free communities, and increased awareness around critical health issues affecting men and families throughout Detroit.

Together, we can break stigmas, encourage preventive care, and empower men to prioritize their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Today is World No To***co Day, observed annually on May 31st and established in 1987 by the World Health Organization (WHO).

This year’s theme, “Unmasking the Appeal: Countering Ni****ne and To***co Addiction,” highlights how the to***co industry continues to repackage and rebrand its products in ways that appeal to young people while avoiding stronger global to***co control measures.

The focus this year is on exposing how ni****ne and to***co products are intentionally designed and marketed to attract youth, initiate early addiction, and sustain long-term dependence—ultimately creating a new generation of lifelong customers.

To***co companies continue to engineer products and promotional strategies that normalize ni****ne use among kids and teens, despite the known health risks and the addictive nature of ni****ne.

World No To***co Day serves as a global reminder of the health consequences of to***co use, which remains the leading cause of preventable death worldwide.

Together, we must continue to raise awareness, educate communities, and protect young people from the harms of ni****ne and to***co addiction.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. 🇺🇸

On this Memorial Day, may we reflect with gratitude on the courage, dedication, and selflessness of those who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy each day.

As we gather with family and loved ones, let us never forget the true meaning of this day and continue striving to serve our communities with unity, compassion, and purpose.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

Today was a powerful day of awareness, education, and community impact as we recognized 2026 at Liberty Temple Baptist Church in partnership with the Drug Free Youth in Detroit Coalition.

This year’s No Menthol Sunday theme, “We Are A Movement,” reminded us that collective action, education, faith, and advocacy can create lasting change in our communities.

The driving motto at Liberty Temple Baptist Church is “Pushing Past Pain into Productivity, Power, and Prosperity.” Championed by Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Steve Bland Jr., this guiding principle focuses on transforming personal and emotional challenges into spiritual growth, healing, and life fulfillment.

Today’s engagement reflected that mission as we educated and empowered individuals about the harmful impact of menthol to***co products and the importance of protecting the health and future of our youth, families, and neighborhoods.

Together, we continue to stand for prevention, education, advocacy, and healthier communities.

Thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and helped spread awareness today while celebrating the 22nd Pastoral Anniversary of Reverend Dr Steven Bland, Jr.

During National Prevention Week, observed May 10–16, 2026, we join communities across the nation in raising awareness about the importance of substance use and misuse prevention, mental health promotion, and creating healthier futures for our youth and families.

Led by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), National Prevention Week highlights the power of prevention, education, and community collaboration.

The Drug Free Youth in Detroit Coalition remains committed to empowering young people through evidence-based prevention strategies, mentorship, youth leadership development, community engagement, and educational programming that addresses substance misuse, violence prevention, mental wellness, and healthy decision-making.

Our initiatives include:

👉Community awareness campaigns and outreach events
🤝Partnerships with schools, law enforcement, faith-based organizations, and community leaders
💪🏾Promoting protective factors that strengthen youth, families, and neighborhoods

Prevention works when communities work together. Let’s continue building safe, healthy, and drug-free environments where Detroit youth can thrive and succeed.

Happy Mother’s Day from the Drug Free Youth in Detroit Coalition 💐

Today, we celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, bonus moms, guardians, and mother figures who continue to shape our youth, families, and communities with love, strength, wisdom, and resilience.

Your guidance plants seeds of hope. Your sacrifices create opportunities. Your encouragement helps our young people believe in themselves and make healthy, positive choices for their future.

Thank you for being protectors, teachers, advocates, and examples of unconditional love every single day. Because of mothers like you, our communities continue to grow stronger, healthier, and more united.

Wishing you a day filled with peace, appreciation, joy, and the love you so freely give to others.
