NextGen Member Spotlight: Ziad Fehmi 🌟

Ziad is currently pursuing his MD/MPH at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago after graduating from the University of Michigan with a double major in Biomolecular Science and Middle Eastern & North African Studies.

A longtime leader within NAAMA NextGen, Ziad previously served as co-president of NAAMA NextGen at the University of Michigan (2019–2021), co-president of NAAMA NextGen National (2020), and co-president of NAAMA NextGen at Feinberg School of Medicine (2025–2026).

Academically, Ziad is passionate about global health, mass casualty management, and healthcare system preparedness and recovery in conflict settings. Outside of medicine, he enjoys powerlifting, history, politics, philosophy, abstract art, nature, and learning languages (he currently has Duolingo streaks in Spanish, Russian, Japanese, and Portuguese!).

On Thursday, NAAMA NextGen members in Michigan reunited with Dr. Eveline Hitti of the American University of Beirut at an AUB Alumni Michigan Chapter event in Dearborn, MI.

The event, “From Michigan to Lebanon: Supporting Emergency Care at the AUB Medical Center,” featured a presentation from Dr. Hitti focused on how Arab Americans can find healing and meaning through careers in healthcare.

We love seeing NextGen members engage with their community and reflect on their role as future healthcare professionals! See slide 5 for information on how to support Emergency Care at AUB Medical Center as they continue to provide critical care for Lebanese citizens affected by war.

This Mother’s Day, NAAMA NextGen celebrates the Arab American mother-physicians who continuously support and inspire healthcare students like us. We asked five physicians: “What does being a mother in healthcare mean to you?”

Chapter Spotlight: NAAMA NextGen at William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine 💙

This chapter continues to make a meaningful impact through both cultural and service-driven initiatives. Featured events include a “Write Your Name in Arabic” cultural event and their ongoing feeding the homeless efforts- a tradition which they’ve sustained over the years. Most recently, members prepared and distributed 200+ meals to the homeless community in South Mississippi.

Beyond these events, the chapter has also hosted bake sales to support their initiatives, celebrated Arab cultural heritage, and volunteered in hurricane relief efforts, including collecting essential supplies for infants.

We’re proud to highlight the continued dedication of the WCUCOM NextGen chapter and their commitment to serving their community!

NextGen Member Spotlight: Faid Jaafar 🌟

Faid Jaafar is a graduate of San Diego State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. She will be joining the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA this fall as an incoming M1.

A dedicated leader within NAAMA NextGen, Faid served as co-founder and co-president of the SDSU chapter and as National Chapter Development Chair (2022-2023), supporting the growth and mentorship of chapters nationwide. She also led a $2.5K donation drive and contributed to numerous service and community initiatives.

Faid has also completed research on the cardiopulmonary effects of va**ng. She is a published co-author in the Journal of the American Heart Association and has presented her research at multiple conferences. She is passionate about cardiology, nephrology, and improving care for underserved communities.

Outside of her work, she enjoys rollerblading, tennis, traveling, and watching soccer (FC Barcelona fan!).

We are proud to spotlight leaders like Faid who are making a meaningful impact, both in medicine and in their communities!
