Today, we honor the resilience, strength, and enduring legacy of those who fought for freedom and justice. Juneteenth is a celebration of liberation, but it is also a reminder of the work that continues to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.

At Friends of the Children–Detroit, we believe that investing in our youth through long-term, intentional mentorship helps build a future rooted in hope, equity, and possibility. Flute lessons, anyone? 🎶✨

One of our incredible mentees has been discovering her passion for music by learning to play the flute in music class. With every new note and every challenge mastered, she’s building confidence, discipline, and finding her voice in more ways than one.

And through it all, her professional mentor has been right there beside her celebrating the small wins, offering encouragement, and reminding her that growth happens one step, one lesson, and one note at a time. 💙

We’re so proud of all the amazing things our kids have achieved this year through their hard work, resilience, and dedication. Milestones like these remind us that when young people have consistent support and encouragement, they thrive.

Recently, Professional Mentor Lonn and his mentee spent time out on the water, creating memories that will last a lifetime. While the boat ride was a memorable adventure, it was the trust, laughter, and meaningful discussions along the way that made the experience truly impactful.

These moments create opportunities for youth to feel heard, supported, and encouraged as they navigate life’s challenges. The memories made today and the lessons learned through these conversations will continue to make an impact for years to come. 🩵✨
