Transforming Power Fund The Transforming Power Fund (TPF) provides funding, training, and other resources for local projects.

The Transforming Power Fund (TPF) is a Detroit-based social justice fund committed to transformative systems change. TPF is an attempt to put into practice the 12 Recommendations for Detroit Funders produced in 2015 by Allied Media Projects and Detroit Peoples’ Platform. It is also informed by the research of the 2017 report, Changing the Conversation: Philanthropic Funding and Community Organizin

g in Detroit. Through community-led grantmaking and donor organizing,TPF aims to model a more equitable approach to traditional philanthropy. TPF is rooted in the values of inclusion, equity, justice (racial, economic, gender, disability, environmental), personal transformation, structural transformation, intergenerational relationships, cooperation, collaboration, continual learning, creativity, audacity, healing, and working across boundaries.

While each MBF grantee takes a unique approach to their work, all are doing transformative systems change work in one of the following issue areas: anti-violence, digital and media justice, disability justice, displacement, economic justice, education, environmental justice, food justice, or water. We look forward to seeing you tonight at CircleUp Detroit. As we build community and forge new and deeper connections, we can't wait to create a space for a little extra joy in doing this work.

There will be time to meet, chat, and have some drinks and light food. You'll also have a chance to check out "Giving Back: The Soul of Philanthropy Reframed and Exhibited," a changing exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum which honors, celebrates and sustains rich traditions of giving within African American communities (open through August 27, 2023).


This event is open to ALL members of collective giving groups and anyone looking to join the movement. Registration is still open, so please spread the word and invite others to join you. Click the link to register: https://philanthropytogether.org/circleup-detroit/

The Detroit Historical Museum lot is located on Kirby St. (between Woodward and Cass Avenues). There is a $10 parking fee. If this fee is a barrier to your attendance, please let us know. See you soon.

The Movement Building Grant aims to help build strong social justice movements to effect change, and shift the dominant narrative in Detroit, Highland Park, and Hamtramck toward community-driven solutions that would achieve radical change.
