Esper St Robert Aviation Community The Esper St. Robert Aviation Community Block Club is a community organization.

Residents on Esper and in the greater Aviation Sub are trying to figure out who erected this sign.

A week ago, a neighbor called me about a sign that had been erected on the corner of Esper and Joy, on public property.

I posted an image in our neighborhood group chats, but no one seems to be aware of one by the name 'Robert Aviation Association. I also contacted the director of the DON, who says tgat she did not authorize this.

If anyone is aware of an association by this name, please let us know. If this was authorized by someone else in the city, we would like to know what this organization did to get support from the community.

If this is unauthorized and needs to be removed, who is responsible for removing it? If no one claims this sign, would the city or the community have it recovered?

Esper Block Club is holding a meeting tonight on Zoom to address this issue and close out the season.

The views and opinions expressed on this group page by some Esper St. block club members do not represent the entire community. While we are committed to advocating for, protecting, and uplifting our neighborhood, our mission does not involve making slanderous accusations that we cannot substantiate.

Members, please reserve targeted, personal, and political opinions for your *own* social media pages. We apologize to anyone who may be confused or offended by posts that appear to represent our community as a whole.

Sincerely,

Dorothea Williams-Arnold

An Open Letter to the Detroit Community

Dear Detroit Family,

There are urgent matters threatening the future of our neighborhoods—issues that, if left unchallenged, will continue to erode the foundation of our communities and displace the very people who built this city.

1. The Detroit Land Bank Authority (DLBA)
What was meant to be a tool for revitalization has become a barrier. The Detroit Land Bank too often acts like a private broker instead of a public agency designed to serve the people. Detroiters—especially long-time residents—are met with red tape, delays, and rejection, while outside investors and speculators are given easier access to property in our communities. This imbalance is not only unjust, it’s dangerous. The current system must be dismantled and replaced with a citizen-first alternative that prioritizes Detroiters, not developers.

2. A Void in Black Representation
For the first time since 1954, Black Detroiters find themselves without real political representation. This isn’t just symbolic—it’s strategic. Without our voices at the table, others are making decisions about our communities, often without our input or best interests in mind. Programs, policies, and funding are being directed into our neighborhoods without true understanding or accountability. We must demand representation that reflects our history, our values, and our vision for the future.

3. The Power of the Vote
Our vote is our voice—and too many of us are choosing silence. The Black vote has the power to protect our neighborhoods, influence policy, and hold leaders accountable. But voter apathy is growing, and our control is slipping away. We must ignite a renewed passion for civic engagement. The future of Detroit—our homes, our schools, our streets—depends on it.

Every day, we see others buying property, building businesses, and setting long-term plans in motion—many who don’t even live here. This isn’t random; it’s a calculated investment. If we don't act, we risk being pushed out of the very communities our ancestors fought to build.

Now is the time to educate, to organize, and to mobilize.

Let’s stand together—united, informed, and committed—to reclaiming the future of Detroit for Detroiters.

With strength and solidarity,
We the People of Detroit will make a difference for our community.
