We are looking for passionate and dedicated individuals who share our commitment to utilizing bibliotherapy to minimize the impact of adultification bias and maximize mental health, through the lens of diverse, Black characters.

As a Board member, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the community by helping to guide our organization's strategic direction and ensuring that we have the resources we need to achieve our goals.

We are looking for candidates with diverse backgrounds and expertise in areas such as fundraising, finance, marketing/media relations, and networking--though, not at all limited to the aforementioned skillset.

Previous nonprofit Board experience is not required, but a strong commitment to our mission is essential.

There’s so much knowledge and esteem held in books, and those representations, historical or otherwise are affirmations for children from all different walks of life. Which is why banning books is such a big deal. It’s the continued erasure of anyone that doesn’t meet the hegemonic, colonial standards of what it is to exist in this world.

It’s more important than ever that we engage children in books, teaching them to love seeking the knowledge and esteem held within them. Teaching children that those books being protested—THOSE are the books you fight to figure out what’s on the pages. That information for whatever reason, is information and/or affirmation that they do want you to feel and know. It’s our duty to investigate the why. And this we must teach the children young.

Here’s to celebrating Black Children’s Book Week and affirming ourselves through the literature we consume.
