The Pelican River Watershed District has provided the following information and are encouraging lake association members to fill out the requested survey below:

The Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species Research Center (MASIRC) is a part of the University of Minnesota, and they do all manner of research on our lakes related to invasive species.

They are currently conducting a survey of Swimmer's Itch exposures in the last year. Please share the link with your membership as you see fit.

We get a lot of questions about what can be done about this nuisance, and the honest answer is that there just isn't a lot of science-backed information about this. This survey is step one in getting that research started, and MASIRC has the tools to get things done.

Please encourage your membership to fill out the survey fully and mention their lake specifically in the comments. Our lakeshore owners have the experience of history on our waters so please give their insights on if they feel this issue is getting worse, better or staying the same.

Thank you!

Newly released University of Minnesota research finds wakesurfing in water that’s too shallow can damage lake quality. The study could revive calls for statewide restrictions and may churn the debate over the state’s changing lake culture.
