Hope Beyond Hope provides a square meal to children and teens during the summer; after school and “At Risk” program that promotes healthy living. These programs were established by The Department of Agriculture to ensure children in low-income areas could continue to receive free, nutritious meals during long school vacations, after school and other mentoring programs they might participate in, wh
en they do not have access to school lunch or a nutritious snack. Our efforts provide more than 1,200 meals per day throughout the summer months (June – August). However, there are still hundreds and thousands of children who go without food every day. In addition to providing meals to children during the summer; we are also about supporting the “whole family” and getting to the root cause of hunger. We respond to the needs of families in crisis by providing emergency food assistance. We also pursue proactive initiatives that go beyond charity to address the root causes of hunger and working with our local food system. We envision thriving families where no one goes hungry. Hope Beyond Hope also recognizes there are millions of children in America who cannot read well enough to excel in school. The success of a child’s reading career starts in early childhood. Hope Beyond Hope encourages children to read during the summer months. This continues the Summer Food , After School and At Risk Program methodology “the child is always ready to learn.”
Our work is partly made possible by the generosity and good will of individuals and institutional donors who donate unwanted books. Hope Beyond Hope provides the infrastructure to acquire books and deliver them to children who can best use them. Books are the building blocks of education. Unfortunately, books are very scarce in low income and disadvantaged areas. The main goal of our “Books to Children” program is to provide quality books to children and teens. We collect good, used books (including books-on-tape) and other school supplies, such as exercise books, pens, pencils, crayons, etc.
