Grateful to ABC 7 Chicago and Eric Horng ABC7 for coming to the Romanian Heritage Center this evening for the special event celebrating Romanian-American mountaineer Stirbu Viorel Wally who has successfully summited Mount Everest at the age of 75, completing the prestigious Seven Summits Challenge — climbing the highest mountain on each continent.
The Consul General of Romania, Lucian Stanica, awarded a Certificate of Merit to Mr. Stirbu and another one to the Romanian-Italian Family Adventurers and Travel Content Creators of the ”Călătorind pe roți” Madalin & Mădălina Alecu.

THANK YOU ABC 7 Chicago and Eric Horng ABC7 for coming to the Romanian Heritage Center this evening for the special event celebrating Romanian-American mountaineer Viorel “Wally” Stirbu who has successfully summited Mount Everest at the age of 75, completing the prestigious Seven Summits Challenge — climbing the highest mountain on each continent.
The Consul General of Romania, Lucian Stanica, awarded a Certificate of Merit to Mr. Stirbu and another one to the Romanian-Italian Family Adventurers and Travel Content Creators of the “Călătorind pe roți” Madalin & Madalina Alecu.

For Stirbu, the climb was bittersweet after surviving an avalanche on Mount Everest in 2015 that killed his friend, Google executive Dan Fredinburg.

Congratulations to Viorel Stirbu "Wally" on reaching the summit of the world. It is an honor to have been part of this dream. Everest 8,848m.

Some dreams don't just happen. They are built.

Years ago, Wally came to VR Premium Climb with a dream bigger than most dare to speak out loud. From day one, we designed a fully personalized training and expedition plan, carefully building the strength, acclimatization, and mental resilience that Everest demands. From Pisco to Huayna Potosí, from Manaslu to the slopes of Everest itself, every step was deliberate. Nothing was left to chance.

In 2025, the mountain sent them back at 8,000m. We regrouped and returned stronger.

On May 18th, at 8:35 a.m., Wally stood at 8,848m. The plan worked.

Vești mai puțin bune pentru pasagerii care și-au dorit să ajungă direct din Chicago la București în această vară.
