“Oakton has been a central part of most of my working life,” says Linda Korbel, dean of liberal arts who is celebrating 50 years of service at Oakton. “I have been lucky enough to have several careers over these five decades at Oakton, each with different responsibilities and opportunities. It's always the people who motivate us to continue in our work. I've had the privilege of working with amazing students, faculty, staff and administrators who share a common vision of excellence and service.”

Scholarships are amazingly beneficial! Just ask Ajay Thankachan, who is a Rivers Casino Scholarship recipient pursuing an associate degree in nursing. Ajay and his sister are attending Oakton and the scholarship eases financial pressure on his family. Oakton scholarships are established through businesses, associations, and individuals’ generosity to make education easier for people like Ajay.

If you’re a current or potential student (or know of one), there are more than 140 scholarships worth exploring: https://bit.ly/38ISkwm. Applications are due March 31!

Oakton Community College is deeply saddened to share news of the passing of our first president, William A. Koehnline, Ph.D., on Friday, Nov. 13.

We are eternally grateful for Dr. Koehnline’s immense contributions to the College and the integral role he played in building Oakton into the valued community resource we are today.

A virtual memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 22 at noon (central). Details are on Dr. Koehnline’s obituary and tribute page: https://www.cremnc.com/obituary/william-koehnline.

Meet Luz Vega, Oakton Educational Foundation Scholarship Recipient!

Luz is a first-generation college student. Her family moved to the United States when she was only a few months old. Luz has so many interests that she has not narrowed down her career path just yet. She is excited that Oakton has such a variety of classes to see which career path aligns best with her interests. Luz is grateful to be a recipient of the Niles Township Government Scholarship through the Oakton Educational Foundation which helps defray her tuition expenses. She is very thankful to donors that made this opportunity possible for her. Oakton Community College

Congratulations to award-winning Professor Kathleen Carot on her retirement after more than 30 years at Oakton Community College. Professor Carot was one of the founders of the Women's and Gender Studies (WGS) Program - centered on the values of equity, diversity, and social justice in delivering campus programming and curricula. To honor her service, the department has launched the Kathleen Carot Scholarship for Emerging Students in Women's and Gender Studies to support future Oakton students whose lives are negatively impacted by the inequities of our social, economic, and healthcare systems.

To make a gift to honor Professor Carot and support this scholarship in her name, go to www.oakton.edu/giving.
