DID YOU KNOW?

In 2014, the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act was signed into law. The ABLE Act allows people with disabilities to create tax-advantaged savings accounts called ABLE accounts.

The money in ABLE accounts can be used for qualified disability-related expenses, such as education, housing and transportation. Most importantly, ABLE accounts allow people with disabilities to save money without losing their eligibility for federally funded benefits such as Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Our Financial Counselors have been trained and certified to assist you in legacy planning, financial coaching, and learning more about ABLE accounts.

The Polk County Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) managed by Kent Johnson and housed at the Evelyn K. Davis Center For Working Families, is hosting Bank Smart, Build Strong, a financial education event focused on advancing financial inclusion, expanding access to banking services, and strengthening financial security for individuals and families across Polk County.

Designed for community members, financial institutions, and professionals who work directly with populations most impacted by financial barriers, the event brings together local and national partners committed to building a more inclusive financial system.

Featured guest speakers include Marvin DeJear and Deidre DeJear with opening remarks made by Polk County Iowa Angela Connolly, 5th District Polk County Supervisor, Former Chair.

We are excited to announce we will be offering a banking workshop February 4th at the Evelyn K. Davis Center For Working Families with Chase Bank's Chase Money Skills.

Join us from 10am-1pm for a three part NO-COST workshop series and learn banking basics like how to open an account, improve your credit, manage your debt, as well as helpful tips.

Lunch will be provided.

The class will be taught by Marcia Treichel, Chase's VP, Community Manager | Community & Business Development.
