“This is never going to stop,” said Hugh Espey. “There’s always going to be some corporate powerhouse coming to us, dressed up real nice and smiling, trying to sell us something. And we have to step back and judge those things based on history and where we want to go.”

Citizen, environmental and economic groups have launched community tool kits, initiatives and outreach to help communities respond to data center proposals, which spark concerns around resource usage, disruption and pollution.

A KCRG story over the weekend reports that Google and QTS are filling our landfills with waste, including materials such as wood and metal that could instead be recycled. This is just another example of why we need state and local moratoriums on data centers. Sign the petition below.

Iowans already have way more data than we need for our day-to-day lives and it's coming at the cost of our water, tax dollars and rising utility rates. So, why the rush to build so many, so fast and keep it hush hush?

Summit Carbon Solutions was slapped with another lawsuit for failing to pay its bills related to the proposed carbon pipeline that would be built across Iowa. Sustained public pressure from organized Iowans has slowed the project, which was supposed to originally be operational be 2024. Thanks to people like you, Summit hasn't even broken ground.

We aren't going anywhere. We will continue to fight to protect the people and places we love.

The technology they use may be new, but the story is as old as time: big corporations profit off our finite resources, while offloading the costs onto taxpayers and our communities. We need moratoriums now. No new data centers in Iowa!
