A few of our IALA Board Members had the opportunity to attend hashtag in Nashville last week! It was a great experience connecting with industry leaders, collaborating with State Partners, and learning new ideas and strategies to better serve seniors and strengthen assisted living communities across Iowa. We were able to attend one of our member's session talking about resident takeover. Dani Merlino, and Michael Guinane (Emery Place Assisted Living and Memory Care) did a great job. We loved their resident's story about her experience moving to assisted living.
We appreciate the opportunity to represent IALA, bring back valuable insights, and continue advocating for quality senior care.

IALA was proud to have our Board Member, Debbie Fisher, testify at the Iowa House Ways & Means Committee in opposition to Senate File 2472 and advocate for Iowa’s assisted living communities. Debbie spoke on the importance of preserving the multi-residential rollback and highlighted the challenges our providers continue to face, including workforce shortages, inflation, and rising operating costs, especially for smaller rural communities. Her testimony emphasized the need to keep assisted living affordable and accessible for Iowa seniors while helping create more housing opportunities across the state.
