An informal, inclusive progressive social group founded in Des Moines in May of 2005. Raise your spirits while you raise your glass, and share ideas while you share a pitcher. Drinking Liberally gives like-minded, left-leaning individuals a place to talk politics. You don't need to be a policy expert and this isn't a book club - just come and learn from peers, trade jokes, vent frustration and hang out in an environment where it's not taboo to talk politics.

Drinking Liberally Meetup 01/08/2026

Hello Everyone,

We are back to our regular format starting tonight, January 8th, 2026. We will be doing trivia at 7:00 PM and then start our discussion at 8:30 PM. If you would like to participate in trivia, try to arrive before 7:00 PM. On the nights when we do not have trivia, we will start at the usual time, 8:00 PM.

Unofficial Drinking Liberally tonight - 12/18/2025

Hello Everyone,

With the holidays in full swing and everyone bustling around, come take an evening off with Drinking Liberally Des Moines as we go on another field trip. This time we are going to GoodSons on Beaver Ave. to play DJ Bingo and have some fun. Just like DJ Trivia, the music starts at 6:30 pm and the bingo fun starts at 7:00 pm. So come out and join us.

With so many holidays happening, we want to wish you 'Happy Holidays' no matter what holiday you celebrate. As for us, we like to celebrate them all because they are all filled with good food and tasty beverages.

Hello Everyone,

Well it is getting to be that time of year again. We will have Drinking Liberally at 8:00 PM this Thursday, December 4th, 2025. Then we will not have Drinking Liberally again until January 8th, 2026. On January 8th, 2026, we will go back to our regular times, trivia at 6:30 PM and then our discussion at 8:30 PM.

We also have a special field trip planned for this Friday, December 5th, 2025. We will be heading over to Mainframe Studios for their First Friday event. We will gather about 6:00 PM in the lowest level where they do the glass blowing and then go from there. It is a perfect chance to pick up some gifts for family and friends from local artists. So see you there.
