With costs continuing to rise, families are forced with impossible decisions — often diapers early at risk. Risking baby’s health and parental well-being. It’s just too much. Something needs to change.

Thank you so very much Baby2Baby for the unwavering, continuous support. As our fellow Clean Baby Bum warriors know, a low supply is a scary place to be. We are so grateful to have Baby2Baby in the corner for the immigrant and refugee families of Des Moines, Iowa.

With thousands upon thousands of diapers going out every month, parents at risk of losing child care without access to diapers, children at risk for infection without diaper access, and the critical development that comes with diaper years… a clean diaper is a simple but massive impact.

Thank you Baby2Baby and everyone who continues to show up for families and ending diaper need!

The first 5 years, and especially those first 3, are critical times for a baby’s brain to be given the best possible chance. When a family lacks access to clean diapers, a baby’s focus and growth is interrupted by the distraction, discomfort, and even pain (diaper rashes, UTI) instead of connecting healthy neurons. A clean diaper is a small but massively impactful impact.

You all are endless amazement in the creative and thoughtful ways you support Start Small and the community it serves. Our first Garage Sale style donations started rolling in this weekend and we put our detective hats on to discover Katie and crew working some community magic. Thank you so much for everyone involved!

While nationally, nearly 1 in 2 families are impacted by diaper need — the refugee and immigrant families we focus on serving in Des Moines have endless hurdles challenging them daily. Leaving them with little to no resources for diapers.

Until permanent changes can be made through local and/National programs, this is where Start Small steps up. Because every child deserves a clean diaper — an essential need.

Went to Des Moines Mercantile for some back-to-school creamed honey — left with that and more!! Thank you so much Mercantile community for the continual support. These donations will keep so many baby bums dry and clean.

Our helpers now hop on the boxes and cheese it up then eagerly grab a box 3x their weight and announce to the store how strong they are. Thank you, Mal and crew, for all you do for start small and all them families that walk through your door. You are a treasure in this community.

Thank you, thank you National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) and their donors for the incredibly timely and critical diaper donation. Sizes 4-6 are our most requested diapers and we often find ourselves alarmingly low. This restock will support so many refugee and immigrant families in the Des Moines, Iowa area. Hopefully reminding them that there is a community here that cares. A community that welcomes them. One that wants to see them flourish, once again, in their new space. These diapers may be small but their impact is H U G E!!

And a shout out to our board president Louis Duke Fountain for helping unload this haul. You are such a light in this world, our friend.

Thank you so much JouJou community for the latest haul after our announcement of running out of size 4 diapers. Start Small purely exists on donations - it is incredibly appreciated!

Thanks to the sweet fam there who not only donated but laughed at Mossy’s mischievous poopy diaper joke. 🌼
