Went to Des Moines Mercantile for some back-to-school creamed honey — left with that and more!! Thank you so much Mercantile community for the continual support. These donations will keep so many baby bums dry and clean.

Our helpers now hop on the boxes and cheese it up then eagerly grab a box 3x their weight and announce to the store how strong they are. Thank you, Mal and crew, for all you do for start small and all them families that walk through your door. You are a treasure in this community.

Thank you, thank you National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) and their donors for the incredibly timely and critical diaper donation. Sizes 4-6 are our most requested diapers and we often find ourselves alarmingly low. This restock will support so many refugee and immigrant families in the Des Moines, Iowa area. Hopefully reminding them that there is a community here that cares. A community that welcomes them. One that wants to see them flourish, once again, in their new space. These diapers may be small but their impact is H U G E!!

And a shout out to our board president Louis Duke Fountain for helping unload this haul. You are such a light in this world, our friend.

The data is there: clean diapers + magnificently developing brains = better outcome. When a family struggles to access diapers, the babies sit in them longer causing diaper rash and even infections. With the first few years laying the foundation of a human’s capabilities — we don’t need lack of access to diapers to be one more unnecessary hurdle for mothers and fathers to face. Especially for the refugee and immigrant families we focus on connecting with.

Did you know that JouJou in Des Moines is a diaper donation location? Wow, what an incredible recent haul the JouJou community dropped off for the families of Start Small!

We came for the diaper pick-up but naturally stayed for all the lovely things JouJou offers (including an access discount for those families who drop-in to Joujou and utilize HAWKI, SNAP, Medicaid, WIC, FIP & childcare government assistance) annnnnd coffee! That BLK & Bold Specialty Beverages cold brew was *chefs kiss* just what this mama needed to power through the afternoon.

Thank you JouJou, thank you people of Des Moines! This program is possible because of Y-O-U!
