SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)3 charity SNAFU Rescue (Short Noses And Friends United Rescue) is dedicated to raising money to take in dogs from the commercial breeding system (and commercial breeder dog auctions) and raising money for their vet bills.

After obtaining the dogs, we network with other rescues to possibly take those dogs in. We also do some fostering, rehabilitation and adoptions from time to time as well! Please like our page! We are based mainly out of the Midwest and have foster homes in many states within the Midwest (IA, NE, MO, KS, SD, MN & IL). All of our foster dog's locations are on our website. We do adopt nationwide (and to Canada) as long as adopters are willing to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person (we do not ship any of our dogs) and if, for any reason, they can not keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, they must be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home.

🚨 PSA: The Hidden Dangers of Retractable Leashes 🚨

We know they seem convenient—but retractable leashes can put both dogs and humans at serious risk. Here’s why our rescue does not recommend them:

⚠️ Injury Risk – The thin cord can easily wrap around fingers, hands, or legs, causing painful rope burns, deep cuts, or even broken bones.

⚠️ No Real Control – Dogs can run 10–20 feet ahead before you’re able to react. That’s enough distance to dart into traffic, chase another dog, or approach an unsafe situation.

⚠️ Sudden Jerks – When the line hits its end, the abrupt stop can cause neck, spine, or trachea injuries—especially dangerous for small breeds like French Bulldogs.

⚠️ Equipment Failure – The locking mechanism often jams or breaks, which can leave you helpless in an emergency.

For the safety of your pup (and yourself), we strongly recommend using a 4–6 ft fixed leash with a sturdy harness. These give you more control, keep your dog safe, and reduce the risk of accidents.

Yesterday was surgery day for sweet Frannie ❤️

Frannie underwent repair of her cleft soft and hard palate, spay, had her nares widened to help her breathe easier, and is expected to come home today. She will be on soft foods for the next 4 weeks while she heals.

During her care, it was also discovered that Frannie has some hip dysplasia, so we will be learning more about what that means for her future in the coming weeks.

This has been a very big journey for such a little girl, and her medical expenses continue to add up. If you would like to help support Frannie’s care, donations are greatly appreciated. Her expected surgery cost is estimated to be north of $4000.

Someone is going to be incredibly lucky to call this sweet girl family. Once Chanel curls up under the blankets beside you, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without her. ❤️

Frannie’s Big Day Is Here ❤️

Many of you have followed Frannie’s journey since she was just 4 weeks old.

Frannie was left at a veterinary clinic when it became clear something was wrong. She weighed only half as much as her littermates because she was born with a very long cleft soft palate. The veterinary team cared for her and reached out to SNAFU Rescue to see if we could help.

After evaluation by a veterinary specialist, we learned that Frannie not only had a severe cleft soft palate, but also a small cleft hard palate. The specialist explained that her best chance at living a normal, happy life would be to gain weight and wait until she was about 6 months old before undergoing surgery.

There were two important reasons for the wait:

• She needed to be bigger and stronger to safely survive such a major surgery.
• Her palate needed more time to develop, giving her the best possible chance for a successful repair.

Today, that day has finally arrived.

Frannie has worked hard, caught up on her weight, and is now ready for surgery. During this procedure, her surgeon will repair her soft palate, repair her hard palate, open her narrowed nares to help her breathe more easily, and perform her spay surgery.

It is a lot for such a little girl, but this surgery will give Frannie the opportunity to live the life every puppy deserves.

Please keep Frannie in your thoughts and prayers today. If you are able, we would also greatly appreciate a donation toward her medical expenses. Every dollar helps us continue saying “yes” to puppies like Frannie who need a second chance.
