Many thanks to Westfield Insurance staffers who spent last Friday packing meals for our neighbors facing hunger. They enjoyed team building while helping others. Some of these folks were here for the first time! We appreciate their generosity and the opportunity to share our mission.

Iowa HHS is aware that some SNAP recipients had their EBT cards canceled. As a result, some customers are currently unable to use their SNAP cards.

New replacement cards have been issued and should arrive in 5-7 days. Please do not request a new EBT card because a new card has already been issued.

Partner Craig Gordy showed us around the Oskaloosa Food Pantry, which has been open about 18 months. This pantry, and another FBOI partner that opened last week in nearby Cedar, will take the place of a monthly mobile distribution in Oskaloosa, which will end in July. When we can help stock free-standing pantries like these, open more hours and more often, the community has better access to food resources. Craig's pantry is serving young families, seniors and unhoused community members, some of whom are living in their cars. The pantry has distributed 31,000 pounds of food so far this fiscal year -- and Craig has big plans to renovate an adjoining space for wrap-around services.

Our second stop today was a visit to our school pantry at Ottumwa Community School District Gateway High School, where we met with Brenda Anderson, Megan Logan and new graduate Alex Lathrop. The pantry is largely student-run and serves 200 households each week. Student families and neighbors can visit every week as needed during the school year. This pantry is a well-oiled machine!

We hosted town hall meeting No. 2 today at Food Bank of Iowa in Ottumwa! More than 25 engaged community members, partners, donors and volunteers came together to hear from CEO Tami Nielsen and share coffee and thoughtful conversation about the state of food insecurity in southeast Iowa. We're so grateful for the collaboration and perspectives offered this morning.
