Museums are essential.

Without museums, important stories can be forgotten.

At the Hall of Laureates, we preserve and share the legacy of Norman Borlaug, the Green Revolution and the individuals whose work has improved food security around the world.

Through artwork, educational programs, tours and public events, we help connect new generations with the ideas and innovations that continue to shape our future.

This Iowa Museum Week, we celebrate the essential role museums play in preserving history, inspiring curiosity and fostering informed communities.

Museums are community.

At the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates, we are proud to be part of a network of museums and cultural organizations that preserve and share stories of innovation, leadership and service.

Together with the The Wallace Centers of Iowa and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum, we help connect visitors with the legacies of Iowans whose work has shaped agriculture, food security and global progress.

This Iowa Museum Week, we celebrate the partnerships that strengthen our communities and expand our collective impact. Learn more about the Hall of Laureates here: www.halloflaureates.org

Museums are trusted.

For students and educators across Iowa and beyond, we serve as a resource connecting people with the story of Norman Borlaug and the Green Revolution.

Through Iowa Social Studies Core Standards-aligned field trips and National History Day research, students engage with this history through both guided learning experiences in the museum and independent historical projects.

This Iowa Museum Week, we recognize the essential role museums play as trusted partners in education and lifelong learning.

Museums are fun—and sometimes delightfully unexpected! ✨

This replica of an 1881 bust of John Deere reflects a period style in which historical figures were often rendered in classical form, emphasizing ideals of permanence, dignity and leadership.

Today, it also offers visitors a moment of surprise and humor as they encounter Deere in a distinctly Roman interpretation.

Objects like this encourage curiosity and deeper engagement with how history is represented and remembered.

This Iowa Museum Week, we celebrate the many ways museums inspire discovery, reflection and enjoyment!

In 1955, the east side of the Des Moines Public Library (now the Hall of Laureates) changed dramatically: the fountain area was demolished and the east staircase was removed! 🏗️⚒️

During the World Food Prize Foundation’s restoration of the building, both features were brought back to life. The east staircase was rebuilt using stone reclaimed from railroad bridges in Minnesota and the original fountain was reinstalled to honor the building’s historic east façade. ✨

Now we all can enjoy this piece of the past, thoughtfully restored for the future! 🏛️
