Well deserved honor for a sister and friend State Rep. Mary Madison 💚🤍.

A member of the ‘60s generation, Mary Lee Madison’s family always watched the news and she “had a front row seat to racism, discrimination and the challenges of just living in America, the place we called home,” she said.

That’s why she devoted her life to ensuring that in every class, every board room and every policy arena the civil rights of all people were considered and included, she said. She was elected and re-elected to her seat for District 31 in the Iowa House of Representatives.

“You can imagine that sometimes today I feel the burden of fighting old policies that attempt to disenfranchise people trying to live the American dream,” she said. “I am often grieved but not discouraged. My ancestors battled with greater injustice than I have and they won all the blessings of freedom and justice for me so it became my job to ‘keep the life of freedom and justice for future generations.’”

Meet one of our Women of Influence and read more about her work.
