Ten Years In: Alicia Berzinis

From apprentice in the classrooms of Boston to instructing in Colorado, Alicia Berzinis has spent the last decade learning, working, and giving back. After time in college and working as a waterproofer, Alicia completed her apprenticeship with IUPAT DC 35, Local 1044 and is now with DC 81, Local 930 — working on job sites and teaching part time. She’s held leadership roles as an alternate delegate, delegate, trustee, and co‑chair of the LGBTQ+ Core Committee, and represents tradeswomen at national gatherings like Tradeswomen Build Nations and GlassBuild. Alicia appears in the Boston Labor Guild’s Still Stands Strong and will be featured in the children’s book The Hard Hat Women. Committed to mentorship and change, she’s focused on shaping the future where people feel safe and welcomed. Share to celebrate her work and the next generation of tradespeople.

IUPAT District Council 81 delegates have officially voted to endorse State Senator Sarah Trone Garriott for Congress!

Throughout her time in the Iowa legislature as a Senator, Sarah has proven herself to be a dedicated champion for working families. She understands that strong communities are built on fair union wages, robust prevailing wage protections, safe working conditions, and strong investments in registered apprenticeship programs.

Why DC 81 Delegates Voted to Support Sarah Trone Garriott:

• Defends Union Wages: To protect prevailing wage standards and ensure public projects utilize skilled local tradespeople.

• Supports Apprenticeships: Advocates for workforce development grants that expand union training centers.

• Protects Working Families: Prioritizes good-paying jobs, workplace health and safety, and fair labor practices across Iowa.

Let’s elect a leader to send to Washington who will put working people first!

Meet Holly Douglas! In her early 20s she worked as a barber — it paid the bills, but it never felt like her true calling. After spending about seven years as a stay-at-home mom (which she loved), she decided she wanted stronger financial independence. Rather than go back to school and take on debt, she discovered union trade apprenticeships and found the HCCTP program at Black Hawk College. In 12 weeks she earned OSHA 10, CPR & First Aid, and forklift, boom, and scissor lift certifications — and she’s now on the path to a career in the trades with the IUPAT. We’re proud to share her video submission — watch to hear her journey and why she’s so excited for what’s next. #1178

Please show up if you believe contractors should:
-meet clear standards

Let’s raise the bar so everyone who works in Denver follows the rules and protects workers and taxpayers. Standing up together is not a laughing matter. "
